Argos Experience

having bought from argos since 1986, I can tell you that 80% of the stuff I have bought from them never lasts more than 2/3 years.
lawn mowers, razors, drills, watches etc etc. forget it.
They all fail within a few years.
If you are going to buy from argos then buy something that cannot go wrong.
E.g. net curtains or a saucepan - an ideal argos purchase. unless you put it in a 500C furnace it will still work in ten years time.
If it has moving parts or is electronic then forget argos.
I did buy an ALBA TV from argos in 1990 and it is still working, but that is very very very much the exception in my experience.

You do know that Argos don't make the bits, right? The chances of having rotten luck will be the same regardless of the retailer, unless Argos staff routinely give their stock a good kicking.0

I know argos don't make the bits.
They go to cheap and dirty suppliers.
but they also go to some good suppliers.
I bought a sony mp3 player which has worked fine for me.
you seem to have missed the point.
I still shop at argos, but I know what to buy and what not to buy.
80% is crap.0 -
A lot of electrical items etc nowadays aren't made to last, like years ago. It's a disposable society that we live in and when things go kaput, they just get replaced. I've bought things from Argos and most have been problem free. Just one thing, a dining set, got it delivered and it was like firewood so sent it straight back.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

bu if you only pay £20 for a dvd player - who cares if it gives up a year or two later - just buy another at that price!!

that only encourages them to find suppliers who produce even more useless crap designed to fail even earlier/even cheaper.0 -
Demand will feed supply - of course Argos will sell more cheaper items if thats what people want! If not then doubtless someone would be on here complaining about the expense of shopping in Argos. You get what you pay for - the stuff that is 'Argos branded' eg Challenge, Cookworks will not last more than 2/3 years but you are not paying that much for it. If you buy a Sony TV, its the same as buying a Sony TV from Curry's or Dixon's. Argos is just an agent that sells on these goods and working in a store, I can confirm that staff do NOT kick the stock around!0

dropping it however (sometimes from a considerable height) is another matter  :rotfl:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
As others have said Argos is only the retailer .. it sells pretty much exactly the same stuff that you get elsewhere ... sometimes you will be fine other times you will be unlucky ... Argos is no different to the myriad of club books and other retailers.
As consumers we are continually driving prices down .. continually pushing for bargains and demanding cheaper and cheaper products. We don't care that some products may be made by slave or child labour .. just as long as the price is cheap ... and in many cases you get what you pay for.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
