Hello
I have decided to seperate from my husband. It has been a long time coming really and i have already seperated bank acounts and a few toher things recently.
We dont own our home and dont have any loans or credit cards so there will be no big financial problems in that respect.
The only thing i am wondering about is my husband had a bad accident back in October last year which has left him with a bad foot injury. He has had to do a compensation claim as he was off work for 9 months and will need costly specialised footwear for the rest of his life as well as other adaptions round the home etc..
At the time for 6 months he was bed ridden / non weight bearing and i had to do everything for him as basically i was his carer for that time plus we spent a lot of money on taxi's / other costs etc which we have been told by the solicitor to put in the claim.
Will i still be entitled to the money that the solicitor said i would be entitled to for looking after my husband in that time and for 50% of all the costs we paid out for. I dont expect a penny from the injury part as that is my husbands and he is entitled to that as he went thru so much and will do in the future because of the foot injury.
I dont want to be money grabbing but just wondering where i stand whilst i am sorting out everything else that goes with a seperation.
Thank you in advance for any advice.

I suppose it depends what is being claimed for.
are there two separate claims going or is it all just for the foot injury.
You said you dont want to be money grabbing but to be honest, its coming over that way. If you hadnt been splitting up the thought would probably never occured to you.
Caring for your husband when he needs it is what wives do and vice versa.
The claim, i would have thought would be entirely in your husbands name so i would have thought it would be up to him whether you get any reimbursement.
Sit down with him and discuss it calmly and see if you can come to some arrangement.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

When my partner had a knee injury at work there was part of the injury claim made for me with regards to the loss of earnings and expenses that I had from looking after him. I had my own portion of the pay out.
If your time hasnt been claimed for then maybe you should see the firm who are dealing with it - why should you be entitled to any of the compen that she is being paid for his injury?0 -
Thank you both.
I realise i come across as money grabbing. That isnt my intention.
I didnt explain myself very well. When my husband has been doing the claim part of the claim was for the hours of work i had to miss to look after him when he was bed bound and also for other expenses. It was being done as part of his claim. I DO NOT expect anything at all that is owed to my husband just the money for the hours i missed at work and for the costs i paid out for as the solicitor advised to put in the claim. But the claim is all in my husbands name but obviously i am named in it and my loss of earnings etc and proof is in there.0 -
no offence meant OP now i understand more when you say you lost hours from work. etc. not just reimbursement for taxi fares etc. thats a different matter.
Is there no chance of reconcilliation at all. I always feel sad when couples break up whether or not there are children involved. Thats just me i cry at the least little thing, i suppose i am super sensitive.
And if as you say you are named then i wish you lots of luck. Luck you shouldnt need. If someone else was to blame then so be it. Hopefully the person who caused the accident will be insured to cover costs.
Accidents happen but someone has to be accountabe. But i still suggest you sit down with your OH and discuss the matter regarding restitution as the cheque will probaby be in his name. Hopefully you are still on good terms.
edit - now i am even sadder, i see from your other posts that you do have small children.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
