Confusion over comparison site results??

I find this all very confusing - maybe I'm being stupid but since we moved from Southern Electric to Scottish Power 6 months ago our monthly DD has gone from about £80 to £128 (which seems a bit of a hike).

So I've been looking to change again. When I use a comparison site one of the cheapest alternatives is EON, saving about £200 odd pounds a year. Plus through Topcash theres £70 cash back (if go direct) and EON offer Tesco points - Sounds Great!!

But being a bit dubious about whether there are real savings to be made I looked at the price per unit and EON seems much higher, so I cant see how they can be cheaper???

From our last quartley bill it looks like we used 817 kw of gas and 701 kw (504+197).

Am I right thinking that I should stay put or am I missing the money saving point completely!?

You need to look at the total tariff detail, including any/all discounts that apply.

You can't just look at unit prices (unless its ebico)

This is where it also gets confusing for me, do they deliberatly write it so its not easy to understand or is it just me?

Yes,it's deliberate; it's termed confusion marketing by those in the trade. Does exactly what it says on the tin. (until the comparison sites came along and scuppered their attempts)
