aliasojo wrote:.....whilst I'm on a roll....how much would I sell ordinary paperback fiction books for.....and adult videos. (Not adult adult videos....just normal everyday films. ) Think I asked the video thing once before but can't remember what I was told.
50p-£1 for videos
10p-50p for most children's books
20p-£1 for most adults' paperbacks
50p-£2 for most adults' hardbacks
20p-£2 for most kids' toys
20p-50p for cardboard jigsaws
50p-£1 for wooden jigsaws / lift-out shape matching thingies
I have little idea about strimmers, lawnmowers etc - never really noticed the prices because I have no garden.0 -
I did it. Whoo hoo, 1st car boot sale over with yesterday, off to the 2nd shortly.
Thanks CMP.....those prices are exactly what my things went for up here. I got £1 for videos (although a gent took it upon himself to inform me that they were only 50p at the stall across from me, to his grandaughter's absolute embarrassment- she'd been eyeing up my son and was trying to look cool.)
Books went for 50p and toys around the £1/£2 mark.
I was a bit fed up halfway through as all my stuff was really good quality, clean and still had boxes for a lot of them and I was getting practically nothing back.I phoned someone for a pep talk and she gave me a kick up the backside over the phone and reminded me part of the objective was to get rid of clutter, which helped, lol.
I ended up making £101 less £6 for the pitch costs, so £95 which wasn't bad.
I'm going to another today to try to offload what's left but I'm just going to practically give it away as I don't want to bring any of it home now.
Thanks for virtually holding my hand and advising on prices (< that bit is to those that helped  ) :rotfl: and thanks to rest of you for giving me a laugh. Will do the thanking thing later when I have more time.

 crikey love, how much did you sell?!!!! thats some going! i gotta get me some clutter to flog and a car boot :rotfl: !!
i know its hard seeing stuff go for so little, especially knowing it much you paid for it/what it should be worth, but least you are £95 richer. plus it means you have money to buy nice shiny new clutter(i jest, but you may well find resisting this is harder than you think, so feed it all to herman the mortgage pig and put it out of harms way  )
out of curiosity, have you thought about taking the antlers with you to the next one? i promise there isnt a pun coming, its safe to read on!! its just that i know a lot of the markets/car boots round our way attract loads of antique hunters (the type who wont mind the antlers snagging their favourite cardi's to turn a fawlty towers phrase). keep a (reasonable) reserve in mind, and if you get a decent offer, let them take it. (knowing the [STRIKE]down right weird[/STRIKE] ecclectic
range of stuff my mother buys at car boots, you could well be onto a winner)!!! if not, take them home again to flog on ebay. could be one way of resolving the how to package them connumdrum

Still here.
Lost the keys for the car roof box this morning. Box had the tables in it along with other stuff I needed, so obviously couldn't go if I couldn't get the flipping tables out.
Found them now but no point in heading off now as the sale started ages ago and it's a half hour drive away. Bum.
Need to go unload the car and let all my [STRIKE]junk[/STRIKE] valuable assets take over the dining room for a week until next Sunday.
Don't worry p_d........Herman will be getting this lot without doubt. I think this car boot business has been quite cathartic. It's really made me realise that all those nice shiny material possessions of mine that cost a fortune new, were just a waste of money considering how little use half of them have had and how little I'm getting back on them.I expect I'll think twice before buying stuff I just don't need in the future.
As for the antlers, I was going to take them today but they're going to live to see another week now, lol.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I look forward to reading the aliasojo "Guide to Car Booting" coming to a car boot sale near you soon :rotfl:0

As you still have the antlers, here is an idea to solve your clothing display problem and maximise the use of the antlers... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0
