Travel Insurance Claim - Help

I accept the t&c are what they are, i just think in certain situations a bit of discrepancy should be applied. My wife would never have left our daughter and i was never going to leave my pregnant wife.
To think the volume of fraudulent claims that are paid each day and genuine people with genuine claims like these get stitched up really gets my back up.0 -
Surely if you work in claims you understand that an Insurance policy is a contract and the Insurers only want to pay what the contract states they are liable for.
Surely being in the industry you know an Insurance Policy is a contract and they only pay what they are contractually obliged to pay.
Do you authorise additional payments that your company is not liable for to your third parties as they are nice old ladies0 -

I really do despair...do you really work in insurance?0 -
Honestly, dont try and make me out to be some kind of idiot. Ive explained I work in car insurance claims, not travel. I know nothing about travel insurance claims or the terms of such policies.
Please, I posted here for help/advice, not sarcastic comments. If you have nothing constructive to post, please dont post anything.
All I expected from my travel insurance policy, as most people would, is for reasonable expenses to be covered in the event of an unexpected illness.0 -
I would just put it behind you and be glad that your daughter is well.
For what it's worth I think the insurance company are being perfectly reasonable - 1 adult was paid for to stay with your daughter which is adequate - it is not their fault you were worried about your wife as well. These things happen and no insurance would ever pay out compensation for the loss of the holiday time. Why would you envisage that they would? Compensation is applicable when something happens where there is some body to blame - there is nobody to blame for this.0 -

From someone supposedly who manages staff running a claims department this is plain naive.
An insurance policy is a contract. "Most people" would want that contract to be honoured. It is the customers responsiblity to ensure the insurance contract they are buying gives them the cover they want.
You started this thread asking for advice - but as it progresses you seem to shoot down all the messengers, and really just wanted to have a rant, not want any advice at all.
If you are looking for someone to blame, sorry, but it's all your fault entirely. You didn't read (or understand) your policy.0 -
Again, I only posted on here for help or advice or any tips with claiming and as far as I can see, I haven't shot anyone down and apologise if I came across that way.
All I have received in the majority of responses in this thread is, the terms and conditions are what they are, you are naive for thinking all your expenses would be covered and then sarcastic remarks about me running a claims department.
For the record, the insurance company have now agreed to pay for half of the third flight.
I will continue updating this thread with the settlement details as and when I agree with the insurance company and hope this will benfit others more than it has me.0
