Yes, you can just buy a new keyboard. Not difficult to fit on most laptops (you didn't say which make/model).
Then ban liquids from within a yard of your repaired laptop...

often it's just a bit of rubbish under the key, before you do anything rash I'd turn the power off and spend a bit of time with a cocktail stick, a paintbrush and a can of air/hoover. If this doesn't helpmost laptop service manuals have good clear instructions for removing the keyboard so you could lift it off and give it a careful clean. If all else fails, go to your local independant computer repair store and get a price from there )for reference someone posted yesterday saying they'd been quoted 70 by PCworld to replace a HP keyboard),

In the short term get yourself a virtual keyboard. Here's a link for one that comes with Microsoft XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/accessibility/oskturnonuse.mspx

Otherwise, there are free software ones you can find and download via a google search.
  • If you think that the repair is beyond your skills Circuit UK are very good and quite reasonable. Google them for the contact details. They supply a padded, lockable container for your laptop, which is insured. The diagnose the fault and contact you to agree a price prior to repairing the machine. If its too expensive they will just return the laptop and you just pay the carriage (normal carriage about £13 and keyboard replacement including parts start at £18) - Collection, Inspection and Return is about £25
