Does anyone have a new or newish, good spec Evesham laptop and can tell me please
is it quiet?
does it have a good keyboard to type all day on, unlike most laptops?
what's the screen like: glossy or matt/clear and bright or a bit disappointing and can you run it at different resolutions?
what's their customer service like?
Thanks for any help

I was looking at the Evesham A220 for my mum, who's partially sighted. The screen was the older-style matt finish (so no distracting reflections), but was very sharp with a good contrast - one of the best screens I've seen for our relatively modest budget.
I didn't buy it in the end as the delivery charge was quite high, and when I enquired about the specifications (like hard drive rpm etc) got conflicting answers from various Evesham bods (which doesn't inspire confidence).
We nearly went for an Acer, but despite good reviews the one we saw in Comet had poor contrast and a small viewing angle (so small that if the laptop was on your lap you'd have to move your head to clearly see the top/bottom of the screen!)
The HP laptop we saw was a bit more expensive but had an exceptionally clear screen with good contrast, vibrant colours and a good viewing angle...
As far as I know, you can change the resolution (and still get the image to fill the screen) on all modern laptops.
We're still looking, so if you find a good one come back and tell us which one!0 -
My parents bought a PC from Evesham a few years ago - their customer services was abysmal - seriously the worst customer service I have ever experienced from any company in my whole life. They might have changed but I doubt it.
You can get a Dell these days for a few hundred quid - it's got to be a better bet than Evesham.0 -
I disagree with the above comments about Evesham's service being poor. I worked there for nearly eight years, and they didn't get where they are today by letting people down. They don't always get things right first time, but they work damn hard to sort any problems out.
I can't really say much about the laptops - I never dealt with them.
I recommend going to an Evesham shop (there are over a dozen dotted around) and just check out the merchandise. They won't give you a hard sell. And unlike Dell, they don't have an Indian call centre...
In fact, Dell doesn't have any shops, why buy something you haven't seen?0 -
Dell have major monitor probs on their laptops and their customer service is pretty dreadful.
I will drop into an evesham outlet this week and see what there is on display; not sure how much they keep in the laptop range.
HP (the older AMD ones) have good screens but I'm not sure how good they are or how quiet as they are on in a busy shop.
their hdd runs at 4200rpm, not sure how much slower this would really feel than 5200 but a core duo would be much quicker.
Laptop co explained to me that all screens are now glossy TFTs as it's a lot more expensive to produce the older matt type great screens0
