Best way to deal with this Buyer?

Hi,

I sold 2 seperate maps on Ebay adding that i didn't know if they were repo or not in the listing clearly.
I had a load of questions from a buyer which was fine , he asked if it could be sent in a tube instead of a frame..done that... I sent it special delivery next day the day after he bought it.

The buyer got the map then decided that it was infact a repo and could he please have a refund.... i wasn't best pleased as i had said on the listing that i didn't know what it was, however, i said i would refund him if he sent the item back to me via at the very least recorded delivery.

2 weeks after i said i would refund him once i recieved the item back he told me that he had sent it via first class mail ( normal post) and this was a week ago. I STILL have't got it back..he can't provide a tracking number or anything else to say he's posted this but he is starting to get very shirty about his refund.

I'm not happy about the idea of giving him a refund until i recieved my item back but i'd rather not have negitive feedback, where do i stand and what would you do?

Maxine

If he negs you wear it with pride and respond to the feedback calmly and truthfully, but do not refund him til you have it in your hand, and if it doesn't arrive then he can go whistle!
People will see a neg and read any reply you leave, if it is calm and factual then it should have no impact on you at all.
    Don't let him bully you.

Agreed. A neg is nothing compared to losing your money! It's his fault he didn't send via a trackable method as you requested, so it's up to him to submit a claim to RM to recoup lost funds. Do NOT refund him unless they turn up!

Tell him his refund's not going to happen until you receive the item. Paypal-wise, you're safe. You can prove it was delivered (if the buyer tries the "it never turned up" route), and if they do a Significantly not as described, he'd have to send it back tracked... which he didn't do. So he's lost his money, and his item.

How much was the item worth?

He may sending an empty tube back to you, just to get a tracking number, so be careful what you sign for!

But did he...? he might still have the map, then try saying he's returned it (standard post).

If he realises he needs a tracking number for paypal, he may try the empty packet route..?

Yes, but if he opens a dispute, he could then just send an empty tube via recorded delivery, hence he'll have a tracking number which is what PP require to get the refund...

(i presume that's what fuzzgun meant!)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Best to just repeat that you haven't received the item back.
Don't dwell on the tracking number thing, or it might give the buyer ideas, as the others have pointed out.
