I'm not sure about the benefits to be honest. Individual benefits should be no problem I guess - ie jobseekers, but is council tax and housing benefit done on a household situation basis - rather than an individual basis - this could be what's causing the issue.
I'm not sure how it works if you're English and she's Chinese - maybe ring National Debtline? or your local benefits office? or ask in your CAB and see if they can help and explain or ask your council why they need to your wife to have a NI number and what the process is in your situation - surely they can explain the procedure to you and why it works like that?

I think you have to pay to access help through the site and their telephone number but you could always send Herbie a PM as she may be able to help or give you a few pointers.

Yes I think your right. Both of us can't find jobs. I haven't worked for a while and I have used all my savings. In 18 months of being out of work I've only claimed for 2 months job seekers. I'm not a scrounger and none of my friends know I'm claiming. I hate claiming.0 -
I'm glad to see that you have followed the excellent advice, given on this thread, by contacting Herbie. :T and I see, from your other thread, that this is already starting to pay dividends.

While I accept your point about being out of work and only just claiming as you don't want to scrounge (I felt like that as well) - the thing is - if you are signing on at least you are getting your NI paid as well. Also you are eligble to extra help towards training and courses and things I think after a certain length of time so the fact you have put off claiming means you are only 2 months into your claim which means you will have to wait longer to get help with courses etc I believe.
Having said that there are other courses I think you can go on with regards to CV's / internet job hunting/job interviews etc I think - ask at the jobcentre.
Also I found out yesterday my local college seem to be doing courses and retraining for the unemployed but am not sure quite what the criteria is to get on them at the moment but it is something I am looking into - so maybe that might be an option.
I know what it's like with the job situation though.
Best of Luck

Will do, I haven't found any success stories on here yet so I plan to win.
There are many 'success stories on here - especially for those unfortunate enough to have had to deal with 'errant' bailiffs, gl.
You just make sure that yours is one of them.
Good luck. :beer:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
