Programmes at Start Up

Hi,

When I boot up my PC a number of icons (eg. BBC I-Player) appear on the toolbar at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (next to the time)

Some of these programmes I don't want to launch each time the PC starts up. How do I switch them off? I use Vista.

That guide is the badger ^^ Nice and easy. Another way too:

Start Menu--> "Run"-->type in: msconfig.exe --> click OK


CLick the startup tab, deselect ALLL the stuff you don't want to run when you startup (expand the path to see the .exe : E.G- C:\program files\BBC\BBCI.exe)

When you gone through the list and removed the ticks, click apply and ok. Reboot PC.

Job done! It will greatly improve your startup time on your PC and perhaps overall performance too, depending on what you deselect.


General Rule: If you don't know what it is when you are deselecting it: DON'T.
If its obvious like "AdobeReader.exe" then of course go ahead. You can potentially disable important startup stuff.

Download for free Ccleaner ( www.Ccleaner.com ) and choose Tools >> Startup and then from the list of programs Disable the ones you don't want to run at Start up.
Ccleaner will also clean up your registry and get rid of the junk files off your computer and is a better program-removal tool than the one built ito Windows.
