Really starting to panic..

Hi there

Hoping you guys can give me some advise as im at my wits end. I set about claiming back my ppi insurance payments from egg way back in December. Letters went back and forth and it ended up in the hands of the ombudsman.

They found the case in my favour on the 5th June and ordered egg to refund me may payments and compensation.

I was becoming desperate for the money and I decided to contact egg last month. After about 4 phone calls I finally got a call back from the lady who was dealing with my case. She assured me a cheque would be raised by the 31st July.

I arranged to make a rather important payment on the 31st thinking that egg would stay true to there word.

The 31st came and went.. I contacted the egg again and again it took days to get to to speak to the lady I needed to talk to.

She said she would personally get the funds calculated and have the money bacs into my account. I was able to put back the payment I needed to this friday.

Ive still not received anything, in the past 2 days ive phoned egg 6 times and i've still not received a call back from her.

I just phoned back now and they said a cheque has been raised for £300 today.. the problem I have is a) £300 is well under what the ombudsman said I should be paid and b) its in a cheque form which will take days to get here and clear.

Im really starting to panic because of the friday payment and as they refuse to call me back and the people I speak to in egg are no help at all.

Is it worth contacting the ombudsman again or is there anyone else in egg I should try?

cheers for the help in advance

    Hi mottles
Sorry to hear of all the messing about your going through here.

Yes contact the ombudsman, they should contact them on your behalf, let the FOS know of every communication you have had with them, as they will want to know.
Good luck and please let us know how you get on, cheers.;)

I just spoken to the ombudsamn and they said the amount does seem low. He said he will send his contact an email and then go from there.

Why are egg so reluctant to put you in touch with the person you need.

I know one thing for sure if I owed them money they would be chasing me left, right and centre

EGG do sound like hard work, they must have that many complaints to deal with they can't keep up lol.

Yes your right there, when the shoe is on the other foot lol :D.

I'm sure the FOS will sort this out for you. X

Have you checked your egg account - ie loan or credit card as Egg are renowned for making payments back to THEIR accounts.

Ive just check my account and yesterday there was £800 outstanding now there is £100 that coupled with the £350 they are raising a cheque for, amounts to the sum they owe me.

I cant belive they have done this.. I have been trying to contact them continually since monday and not once have they said they where doing this.. they even said they where going to transfer the amount to me!

I contacted them again after I posted on here and I was assured I would have a manager contacting me in the morning before 10.

I will contact the ombudsman again first thing to let them know how egg have acted.

Its completely unacceptable and im livid :mad::mad:

I knew when i read your post that this would no doubt be the case. Egg always redress this way and i know some have even been advised to accept it through the Ombudsman service too. You need to make a complaint if you feel this is unacceptable and let them know that you are. They may change their minds but there are so many on here that are in the same boat. It is wrong but you may have to accept it. I don't know if anyone has won with complaining but others may post here for you.

What annoys me is that I was told I would get the money.. they even took a details to a different bank account I wanted it paying into.. surely that should count towards me.

If I was advised from the begining that they would do this then I wouldnt of made arrangements.

I really want to phone them now but not sure if any one there now could help me.

I really do hope I get this money back as I could be in serious trouble if I dont.

Have you ever been in arrears at all with them? if not then you can say that they are not keeping to their agreement to loan you money (either card or loan) and that if this is there way of redressing then surely the whole agreement between you and them is not valid. They agreed to you borrowing money (the loan or credit on your card) and you agreed to pay them back over a certain amount of time. You have kept your agreement and it did not state that they would be allowed to take money from you, redress it and then pay themselves more money towards your loan or credit card than you agreed to. I know this sounds complicated but your agreement was that you had a certain amount of time to repay them and they have broken the agreement, not you. Usually firms can only do this if you have been in arrears at any time???? (although saying that Egg don't follow what other firms do anyway!)

The loan was originally to pay off a credit card I had with them which had I had fallen behind with. This I presume is classed as a seperate agreement?

As far as recall ive never been in arrears with the loan but I did take payment breaks.

I just cant belive how they are behaving, im just at my wits end!

Thanks so much for your advise.. I have emailed my contact in the ombudsman advising him of the situation aswell
