Hi
I hoped i could get some advice.
I am pregnant and about to buy a car... Was going to get one of those great new mini's but since finding that I am expecting i think i'd better be practical...
So i am thinking of buying one of the new style fiesta's.
Does anyone have any opinions on this as a suitable car for a mother and baby? Daddy wont be around unfortunately so it's just for me...
Am interested in things like boot space, practicality etc.
Currently looking at one which is 02 plates, 11k miles, 1.25 zetec i think...
Am very keen to get something cheap to run, maintain etc...
Thanks in advance!

I've had two, only changed to a Micra because it was a good buy.
I haven't had to transport a baby in my Fiestas, but have transported kids with loads of their belongings, toys and dogs in them. Bit of a squeeze sometimes but very do-able. Practically, they're economical to run so petrol price increases won't hit too hard, they're cheap to maintain and repair, insurance is reasonable, I would think sufficient bootspace unless you plan to do lots of trips with a travel cot, buggy etc.
I guess the bottom line is that you would have to sacrifice a bit of bootspace for low running costs, but if there is only the two of you the back seat folds down and you can easily load big stuff in.0 -
my friend has one and has a little girl, she loves it and as she only has a lightweight buggy it fits in no probs
if you are planning on buying a large pram you may want to measure the boot first lol but if the baby goes in the front (without airbag) then you could easily get the pram in the back seats if you wanted0 -
Hi Snoopkat!
I think my mum has a secret agreement with Ford as she's had 3 fiestas, which have all been passed on through the family, even my cousin's had one...! we all love them and are always amazed by how versatile they are, with bags of room in the back for all sorts. maybe someone you know, like an aunt or something, may have one you could try a pushchair in, or ask her how she's got on fitting her grandchild's (son's) things in, to test it out first before you buy
ps congrats on becoming an expecting mummy x

I'd say the only problem you will have is once you put your buggy in the boot, you won't have much room for anything else. When baby is small this is a problem. But if you can live with it for a few months, when baby can sit in a lightweight buggy then its an excellent buy.
Prob. be worth getting 5 door too so you don't have to keep clambering into the back esp. in the rain.0 -
I've had around 4 Fiestas over the years - absolutely fab cars!!!!! Fine for a small family..as others have said, if you get a big pram/pushchair then you probably won't have much extra space in boot, but with just 2 of you..shouldn't be an issue!
We (me, DH, and 2 DS) went on holiday in one a couple of years ago..got suitcases, pushchair etc in..yeas it was a squeeze, but not difficult!!
I now have a Focus (which is also fab!) but DH has an 02 plate, 1.25 Freestyle 3 door Fiesta...it's lovely..very nippy and quite spacious, CD player etc! Agree that repairs etc are reasonable and spares are easily available. I'd recommend a 5 door though if you can get one..makes life that much easier!!!!!
Best of luck!!!!!20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

(p.s of course i know what the OLD fiestas are like I'm talking about the new shape!!)0 -
Hi
We have had 2 new shape Fiestas recently - a 3 door Diesel and a 5 door Petrol. If could merge the 2 cars, the 5 door Diesel would be perfect!
I find my diesel is way cheaper to run (more to the galoon, lower road fund license and slightly cheaper insurance) and also a bit nippier than the Petrol.
The back seats are surprisingly spacious as is the boot.
Would definitely recommend and we have no intention of selling this one until she dies!MFIT No. 810 -
congratulations! hope you are feeling well! :T
anyway when i had my first daughter we only had a fiat uno 3 doors and we managed but i would recommend five doors if possible as it is difficult messing around with the carseats sometimes and five doors felt like a luxury! we just had a mamas and papas pliko pram which folded down lovely leaving plenty of boot space even in our uno and no carry cot types would fit in as we tried them all!!but i havent had a fiesta so i couldnt compare uno to that! hope this helps and good luck!0 -
we've got a fiesta (albeit an old 1996 one) and its fab - cheap to run, relatively cheap to insure, and because they are so common, spare parts are plentiful on ebayknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

Congrats! I've got a 05 plate 3 door Fiesta and a nearly 6 month old baby. Enough room in the boot to fit a pliko pramette, changing bag and other bits. Great to drive (and park - so important when you've got a baby you'll find!)and cheap to run and insure. It is brilliant NOW, but did I curse it when we first had our baby!
All friends had warned me not to get a 3 door, but stupidly I ignored them. I traded in my lovely puma when I found out I was pregnant and really liked the zetec sports, and there was a bargain deal at the time. So I thought "oh I'll manage somehow with getting baby in and out of the back" How wrong was I!
To be honest it was made worse by me having really bad pelvis problems (spd) and having a C-section so mobility was worse than I expected. It was so painful getting baby in and out i actually stopped going anywhere unless someone could help me. Ford had a delay apparently on having the parts to fit a switch until 2 months ago. I got a switch fitted as soon as they were available and, sounding a bit over dramatic i know, it has changed my life as its so easy to get her in and out now.
A brilliant car all round. But get a 5 door if you can, or if a 3 door make sure there isnt a passenger airbag or get a switch fitted (it cost £77), just in case you have back/pelvis problems after.0
