LCD TV fault - vouchers offered to replace

On Christmas Day 2008 I bought a 'one day only' offer of a 42" LCD TV from Dixons online. It was heavily discounted to just £499. The model is 42LG7000.
About 4 weeks ago it developed a screen fault, a one inch thick, shadowy, horizontal line right across the screen. Whilst it is still watchable on standard definition watching Sky HD or Blu-Ray makes the shadowy line very noticeable.
I called Dixons helpline and after about 5 minutes they agreed to send a 'Tech Guy' around. He arrived, took one look and said it would have to be collected for repair. I am currently awaiting the collection.
The Tech Guy also said that if the repair was uneconomical I would be given vouchers to buy a new set. Therein lies the problem; I expect they will offer me the £499 I paid but Dixons do not sell the same spec set for that price. The current LG model with the same features; 100Hz, 1080p, 4 x HDMI slots and bluetooth costs £740.
I realise I am pre-empting their offer but if they do give me only £499 in vouchers where do I stand with my consumer rights? This figure won't get me the kind of TV set I originally bought.
Hope you can help,
Andrew

On the basis you only paid £499, then if they give you £499 in vouchers, you've technically had free use of a 42" tv for 8 months, so I think that sounds quite fair!
You could always save up the vouchers until Christmas to see if they're running any similar offers. Insist the vouchers have no expiry date.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Just to close this off. I made a pain of myself and they gave me the 499 plus an extra 100 to shut up and go away. Refunded onto my card so I went straight to another vendor (non-DSG) and bought a better TV.0

Well you will be shocked to hear that legally, and fairly IMO they can offer a partial refund if repair or replacement are of disproportionate cost. This takes into account the expected life of the product taking into account price etc and then deducting for usage so far.
So you will be lucky to get your £499 back. I would call you lucky if the figure begins with a 4.
Get saving.....
EDIT: Should have read the other posts first to see its was resolved lol. Thats a very good outcome when taking the above into account!I would say its a slightly obscure result as it means they have paid you £100 to have free use of a tv for 18 months and then take your custom elsewhere. I think you were expecting too much but none the less, well done.Back by no demand whatsoever.0
