question? is the dvd charger more than 5volts output, usually devices like the zen are 5-6volts
if you read the little sticker on the back it will tell you whats required.
  • Also consider the reset button.

Sounds like the voltage may have been different between chargers despite having the same adapter. Have a look at the back of the devices and see what the charge voltages are, I'm betting that the DVD has a higher charge voltage and the ZEN mp3 player is damaged.

Yip he's charged it with a 12 volt charger! And its only 5 volt agh!

Is that it? Is there anything I can do with it? Or is it a case of buying another one?

It could be something minor that is damaged in the MP3 player or it could be a few components that were damaged by the higher voltage. I guess you have two choices (if it was me): have someone check the unit, someone that repairs electronic devices, which may cost a few ££ parts+ labour, you might be able to get a rough quote on labour plus repair costs .... or trash it and buy a new MP3 player. Make sure your husband pays :rotfl:
