Noisy neighbour (musician)
Comments

Our neighbours do a lot of DIY which can be noisy, yet they came round and politely complained when my son was practising his FLUTE. Their baby's room was next to his at the time. We just made sure the timings were more reasonable and have not fallen out over it.0

Funny how times change, in pre - music system times many more people would have had musical instruments, I remember as a child our neighbour playing his piano every teatime, it wasnt so bad to listen to, but his singing was bloody painful.
Personally having a neighbour practising his musical instrument wouldnt constitute a nuisance to me (prefer that to kids kicking a football at the lounge wall 8 hours a day) - that goes with some caveats though.
1. That it is for a reasonable period of time - an hour a day is sufficient for most learners, we aint talking about a professional concert pianist here.
2. It is done at a time that minimising upset to the neighbours - ask him to practice at a time that would upset you less.
3. That he switches his stereo off, or wears headphones to reduce the noise.
4. Buy him a mute (£20) for christmas.
5. Ask him to change locations in the house to be as far away from the party wall as possible.
Hopefully your neighbour is a reasonable person and will work with you to find a compromise where he can practice his music and you arent forced too often or too loudly to listen. If he isnt a reasonable person you have to ultimately decide whether to bite your lip and keep listening or make things official and run the risk of of falling out with your neighbour which could probably be worse than what you are living with at the moment.
