Bought a new computer that arrived today. I'd like a good security/anti-virus protection for it. I've had a look through the "what security do you use" tread but are non the wiser.
Can someone recommend a good one for me?

Do you want it free or are you willing to pay?
Best free anti-virus: Avast
Best paid for: Kaspersky (for anti-virus and security)If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I second this...
If you're wanting a free combo... Id use avast home edition (free), and a decent firewall (all free) such as comodo, outpost or online armor... and a malware scanner to scan your pc say once a week... this is more than enough for the average user...
If you're willing to pay I know PC worlds website has recently been selling the new version of Kaspersky for below the £25 mark
Remember, most security risks are because of stupidity, such as people clicking on things they shouldnt... as a rule... avoid illegal activity and youre less likely to be infected with something nasty...0 -
If you are a Barclays online customer you can get the kapersky (sp) one for free0

a good tip I heard if you've got a squeaky clean computer is to never use the administator profile except when installing software etc and give everyone (including yourself) a non-admin profile. This should help stop things from helping themself to your hard drive.
I'd also install Adaware, spybot S&D, windows defender, all free versions, the links are on the got malware sticky at the top of the forum. I use AVG free and have never had any problems but I know alot of people prefer avast.
Oh, and if you haven't already, install firefox and hide the explorer shortcut.0
