Job Seekers Allowance

Ok so dont all moan at me but I got made redundant last december and havent been able to get another full time role

I have been temping a couple of times but nothing in what i can do. Even tried to get a job at my local tesco and nothing there

I'm now 20 weeks pregnant with twins and on Contribution based Job Seekers till middle of sept as thats when my contributions run out (not sure how this works as I have worked for the last 12 years and never claimed before)

So when the JSA ends can I claim anything else? I cant get the maternity allowance as I'm short a few weeks in what they say is needed

Any help would be great. I have spoken to the Job centre but they just say I have to keep looking which is well and good but noone now is going to employ me knowing I will have to go on maternity leave earlier than if I was having one baby.

Really not sure what to do

Do you live alone or with a partner? If living alone then when your existing jsa runs out you won't be left with no benefit, so don't worry.

You might possibly qualify for ESA because of not being able to work through late pregnancy or if not should have an entitlement to income support.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • yes I live with a partner.

I know we will get child tax credits when they are born but didnt know if i could get anything else while pregnant

Ah, having a partner changes everything if he is working. Have a look at the entitledto website & see if by putting your details in there would be any other entitlement for you when the jsa finishes.

I'm not overly familiar with ESA but if you see here, it will hopefully explain whether you would qualify & receive any money from that. I know that it's possible to qualify but have a nil award due to partners income.http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/FinancialSupport/esa/DG_172014

he works full time as a temp worker
  • It is very unlikely you will qualify for any means tested benefits.

You could possibly get CBESA depending on your NICs over 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.

Contribution based employment support allowance. You can sometimes get it awarded during pregnancy.
