Australia-UK Fares?

Delighted that my son and family are coming from Australia to visit this summer. Despite many air fares advertised here for around £550 to Australia return, he tells me the cheapest he can find in Australia for a UK return is around £1000!

It costs a lot more to fly from Australia to the UK, I'm flying to the Uk with my 3 children in Aug & it has cost me £4000  they dont often do deals here, I booked on-line with Singapore airlines & I think the earlier you book it the cheaper it is.Shaz xx

When I came back from Oz I got a cracking deal from STA. It was a gulf air flight (well 2 flights actually with a 3 hour stop over in bahrain) but was about 1/2 the price of the other flights.0

Its always more expensive OZ to the UK, I usually pay around 1000 pounds, 250 of it is tax and fuel surcharges, and I fly Qantas to get around 25000 airmiles. This site is sometimes ok because it shows the available days for specials.

https://www.travel.com.au is also pretty good0 -
My brother is coming here in end of June/July. He booked through https://www.zuji.com.au and the cheapest he could find was $2100 return on Gulf Air... which i think is about £890.
The other really cheap and good airlines to fly from Aus to London would be Malaysian and Japan Airlines. I remember flying in them in the summer here and it cost me about £930.0 -
Ah, you need https://www.bestflights.com.au
They have specials all the time and if you plan well in advance they have earlybird deals that come out towards the end of the year for the following year. Always best to book early rather than a couple of months before hand. Much cheaper.
They have an international call number (does cost though) so you can call them from the uk, and they have a freecall no if caling from AU.
Only snag is they charge an extra % to take c cards, but you can transfer funds into their account from yours or if in AU probably post a cheque I imagine and that won't cost you.
Also flight costs depend on the time of year. Most expensive times are Dec and mid-year. Cheapest are often Feb/March and Sept/Oct0 -
I agree with Joanna - the bestflights website is great - they have a good website and email newsletter with some good ideas. However, just check the 'deals' with children and what the airline is prepared to charge percentage-wise of adult fare against their ages - have found that some deals work out more expensively once you calculate those compared to other airlines' discount child fare policies.
Also try Thomson's charter flights although they seem to fly only around the beginning of the year, but they might do an Aus-UK booking.
At the moment, Austrian Airlines and Emirates Airlines keep coming up trumps with the best deals.
Cheers
