good morning guys
i have just recieved a letter from the halifax saying that they will help us with an offer of £1649 from the £6000 originally claimed back in 2006. however, they have told me on the phone yesterday that the monies will be paid into our halifax account which is currently £2459 overdrawn.
point 1. we stopped using the account back in 2006 witha £0 balance and no direct debits or standing orders left on the account, so how can we have a overdraft of such a high amount???? i spoke to the halifax head office to check this and was told that there was no reason that he could see why this had happend. STRANGE!!!!!. hopefully it may be clarified later today.
if we decide to accept their offer, do they have to put the monies into that account, seems very unfair for them to make a small offer only to put it into an account that is (allegedly)overdrawn by more than their offer.
they have also said in thier letter that as a good will gesture they will suspend all fees on another account we have with them. this currently has a balnce of £1.78 so that is mighty kind of them. wot a load of trash.
many thanks

They have to put the money into the account which is overdrawn which is reasonable to do. I am assuming that the charges amounting to £2459 is part of the amount you are reclaiming?
they have also said in thier letter that as a good will gesture they will suspend all fees on another account we have with them. this currently has a balnce of £1.78 so that is mighty kind of them. wot a load of trash.
Ask them to suspend fees from the account that is incurring the charges.
many thanks

hi,
thats fair enough if that is what they have to do. but as for the £2459, until yestreday we knew nothing about this overdraft as we have not used the account since 2006 so where it has come from, i have no idea... it is just strange.

Just a thought but if the account was still active and had such an overdraft (according the them), surely they would have sent out statements by post or online.
I would ask them for copies of statements for the account.0
