When my computer boots up, I get the windows start up screen appearing, and then a box appears saying
"The instruction at "0x76362930" referenced memory at "0x000002e0". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program"
When clicking on either of these, the following message appears in a blue screen:-
"STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error)
The windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down"
Is there anyone out there who can advise what needs to be done to get it working again? The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP Professional.
Would be grateful for any assistance.
Many thanks.

Can you try running memtest?
http://www.memtest86.com/
Click on free download then 'ISO image for creating bootable CD (Windows - zip)'
Details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memtest860 -
Can you boot into Safe Mode?0
-
When I go into safe mode, all it does is bring up the same blue screen again.
Unable to run anything on the laptop (using a different one now).
I am probably the least technical person on this forum so please bear with me.0 -
Do you have a Windows XP Professional installation disc?0

What I've got is Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. Hope this helps.0

Thanks David, we made the disc and tried it but it makes no difference - doesn't seem to boot.0

No offence but you must be doing something wrong. Are you sure you're creating a bootable ISO? What burning software are you using? Are you using a CD or DVD?0 -
David, no offence taken - used a CD - Memtest86_3.8, ISO File, 523 KB It is on the disc but doesn't make any difference when inserting it into the laptop.0

If it looks like this, you should be able to repair Windows with it. It's basically an OEM disc with one of Dell's own labels on it.Chelseadog wrote: »What I've got is Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. Hope this helps.
Now, what did you use to burn that ISO image?0 -
Thanks Tanglefoot, I used Windows Media Player if that makes any sense. Sorry but I really am naive in the IT World. Appreciate any help. Thanks.0
