Just trying to sort out the home PC for the mother, reformatted it and reinstalling software and utilities. I installed MSN messenger but when I try to sign in the programme just freezes, no error message it just freezes. I've tried signing in with different accounts so it's not a problem with a particular account. I can log into it from myh laptop via wireless so it's not a router problem.
When it crashes I get an error report with accompat.txt and msnmessnger.exe.mdmp in the temp files. I've googled this and it seems a few people have had the problem but I'm yet to find a website with the solution.
Any ideas?

Also, do you have the most recent version of MSN Mess runnig?
sorry.. not much help0 -
Any chance of posting the dump here?
(Ok so it may be spammy but it may help).
Things to consider:
Have you done any Windows updates since the format?
If so, maybe you require an update.
Maybe an update installed incorrectly.
Mabye you are missing an update.
Uninstall it, registry scan and clean, restart and re-install - often works, sometimes you can simply get a buggy installation.
It's prbably not this, but:
Is the PC correctly configured with the router?
- As in, do you have to add it to the network to make it a secure terminal?
- Do you use WEP or similar?
- Or even simply have to open up port access for the PC's router connection?
Try using a previous version of MSNM?
It may be that the latest version has incompatability issues with other software or hardware.
Avoid MSNM completely, try installing Trillian, its FREE and lets you connect to MSN/ICQ/MIRC/Yahoo/AIM all at the same time.
- Plus you'll be able to talk to your MSNM contacts via Trillian if you never solve the MSNM problem....
Does the PC crash with any other software?
Try running the system under load, with something such as Prime95 - it may not necessarily be a problem is MSNM but a problem with the Windows install.
As its MS software, it may be a file (such as dll) problem with MSNM trying to use a system file that is missing or corrupt.
Consider doing a 'recover' install from the XP disk to replace the files.
