I have just changed our broadbrand and home phone provider to the Post Office. BT provided the phone line until now, do I have to notify them that they are changing?
Thanks,
Michelle

No, the new provider will do that.
OTOH, I assume you had to ask BT for a MAC - so they know the broadband part anyway.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
This extract of an article maybe of some use:Migrating to another ADSL provider
When you migrate to a new service provider your BT phone line will not be affected and, you will keep the same phone number. What you will need:- A standard BT ADSL connection
- Your individual MAC code, which you can get from your current provider
- Check the terms and conditions of your current contract
- Call your current provider and inform them that you would like to migrate to another provider. Obtain your individual MAC code
- Contact your new provider and give them your MAC code and previous provider's details
- Your new provider will then contact your old provider and BT to arrange the transfer of your service
There should only be down time of approximately 20 minutes during the transfer of service.

Sorry I wasn't clear. The phone line was from BT, the broadband from Orange. I got the MAC from Orange which I input on the Post Office site to order the new phone line and broadband.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0

Have you ordered a new phone line, or are you just switching your line rental to the PO?
The MAC has nothing to do with the call side, it is just a means of migrating your broadband to another provider. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

This should be okay then. If you're paying for PO phone line as well as broadband then it's all done by PO from the MAC stage. Just check with customer services to be sure, best to safe than sorry.0 -

You should receive a letter from BT shortly giving you confirmation of your move to another provider.0
