Stupid DD mistake

Hi folks,
I wonder if anyone can advise me how long you have to be late on a credit card payment before it goes on your credit history?

I've recently made a stupid mistake on my internet banking site and inadvertently cancelled a direct debit to pay the full amount of my credit card every month. In my view it wasn't very clear that i was deleting this and i'm very annoyed.

Anyway the amount was due on the 3rd so i repayed the full amount immediately by calling up my credit card company and making a payment over the phone on the same day. They advised me that i will be charged £12.50 for missing the payment, which i'm not ecstatic about but can live with. What i am worried about is if this late payment will show up on my credit file? Do payments a day late show up or is it if you go over 30 days?

I'm really annoyed with myself/ my bank (for having !!!! internet banking) and i've just sorted out my credit file. I'd be annoyed if it was !!!!!!ed again due to a silly mistake.

Any thoughts
Thanks in advance.
Regards.

Would be best to speak to the card company and confirm if they will mark your file as late, if you have one late payment but then the following month your back to normal ie a 0 on your payment history it will make no difference as far as iam aware to your credit worthyness.

if you are constantly late that will.

One late payment will not unduly harm your credit files.

I've made a mistake just like you in the past and, like you, paid within a day or two. It didn't show as a late payment in my credit report.

I've spent many years rebuilding my credit and get regular reports. They show all zeros except for one, a couple of years back, that has a 1 month late on a Littlewoods/GUS account. Having investigated, that late payment showed against a zero balance - yup, I owed nothing but didn't pay!

Anyhow, I think you should be fine :)

/Edit and I totally agree with Jones' post above that one 'strike' will not affect your future credit access.

I had to make a catch up payment by phone, as the DD reinstatement takes more than one calender month to procces ( ?)

I would say that as they charging the late fee, then they will also apply a late marker on your files. Please do update us when you find out. What CC was it btw?
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08

Some card providers report the account status at statement date (I know Halifax do).

So if your payment reaches them in the 3-11 day window (depending on the number of interest free days you have) between the payment due date and the next statement date you may avoid the late payment marker, although won't avoid the late payment fee.

Yeah, thats a similar setup that i came across!
I have since phoned my credit card company again (Capital One) and spoke to someone else. They said that as the post date of the new payment was the 3rd, i will not be charged an overdue charge and so obviously it won't be put on my credit file. So i've been told two different things from two different people from the same company! I suppose i'll just have to wait and see if they apply the charge or not.

    Thanks for all your responses.

To be fair, if you have very good history with a credit card company and appologise profusely and pay immediately they very often cancel the charge as a gesture of good will ... however that they only do once! So just be carefull for the future...
