monitor flickering

i think my monitor just died on me - am using daughters laptop to post this....was surfing about and it began to flick on and off - ive tried to reboot and in safetime or whatever its called but it is still flickering......any advice?

Or the actual 'PC to monitor cable' come lose? A reboot won't make any differece.
Does it make a crackling noise as well, if so it's as above and is the power lead.Regards,

i just got a friend to look - the monitor is broke - luckily i am still insured so they are bringing me a new one monday - not fair - im already having withdrawals - dont like using a laptop
