Help needed to secure Belkin 54g wireless network

Options
Please please please can someone explain to me in plain English how I can secure my wireless network. I've read the manual and im not understanding it at all, all this WAP and WEP and Hexidecimal stuff is so confusing.

Is there anyone out there who is willing to guide me step by step to secure it?

Millions of thanks in advance

  • I have previously looked at these stickies but im still unsure what to do.
  • Generally speaking if you log into wireless router (192.168.2.1 usually) then click on the security tab on the left hand side.
I usually opt for 128bit wep, but someone else can probably advise you more on this. Belkin have a nice feature where you can opt for a passphrase which it then converts to hex. What you need to bear in mind is that you will need to change every computers wireless connection settings once you have changed the routers. So you need to take note of what the hex key is before you save the changes to the router, otherwise you will not be able to access the router again without doing factory reset!!

Once you have changed the routers settings, then go in and change every computers settings as well, every adapters software is slightly different so would be worth checking this before changing anything.

    Hope this helps..

Thanks once again for taking the time to reply. :T
