Sky 'Deals'?

Alot of people have mentioned on here that Sky no longer reduce packages or fall for the 'Im moving to Virgin' thing. Is this still the case?

We are only 8 months into our Sky package and have all the channels, the phone and free broadband for roughly £50 a month. I don't mind paying that if thats what it is worth but we are concentrating more on getting our mortgage down.

I have to admit I know people say it's a luxury but I think Sky is worth the money as you can usually find football or a half decent film, if nothing was on im sure me and the missus would go to the pub instead! So in a way you save with it.

I was just wondering if it's worth trying to get them to reduce the payments as its always nice to save a few quid.

Well as your still within your 12 month contract, you cannot leave so there isn't really any incentive for sky to do so, but I guess its still worth a try.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not someone who want's everything for nothing. I think considering i get the broadband, cheap calls and every channel, £50 isn't too bad. But I've seen the sort of savings you can make since I joined this site and have probably saved/made hundreds if not thousands and i start to look at it as a yearly and realise if I save this and that theres a holiday or my football season ticket paid for etc.

It's a good feeling and I would have no regrets getting some dough back off of Sky. I blame them for getting so many matches moved from Saturdays to Sundays!
  • Just to let all you good folks know, I have been with Sky (on a great deal) for TV, Sky talk and broadband for a year - got the W.I deal posted here last year. Was on the Mid package for broadband, which they wrote to say they were changing - 40gb download limit to 10gb! I wasn't happy with this and called them last week. After being on the phone for 1 hour the supervisor had to go when their fire alarm went off! I called back today, as my year is up tomorrow and was put through to cancellations.

They asked me if I was going to another provider and I said 'yes' (and told them why) and then they just told me I could have my MAC code in two days! I told them I would rather stay with them (to save the hassle of changing!), but they refused to upgrade my package without me paying more and offered me no other deal or incentive to stay! By the way the top package was not worth it for me (other than unlimited downloads), as I am only getting 5mb, so the 20mb speed would be a waste.

I have to confess I was surprised, as we take Sky World as well. Looks like I'm moving to O2!!

I think every channel including all Sports and Movies and the Sky talk and Broadband is a decent deal for £46. Yeah we'd all like to pay less but as I said you can actually find things to watch that may stop you going down the pub out of boredom!

As for broadband, maybe it's because I don't download alot but the free one has been fine for me. As quick as the one I used to pay for from BT aswell.

Prices going up in September by £1.50 and then again in January when VAT goes back to 17.5%. That would have taken my Sky to £53.50 and when you consider the speeds achieved in France (for e.g.) and prices, it's a lot! For that amount they could have conceded and given me unlimited downloads. My kids watch a lot of stuff on line.

Seems like my inkling about Sky was correct. I was with Sky a few years ago and I didn't know that they would sink to even lower depths. Thinking of upgrading that rusty Freeview Box for Virgin Media. What say you?

I have the full Sky HD tv package at £56 per month, I phoned Sky last week to cancel the Sports & Film channels, the girl asked me why I was cancelling those and I said due to cost, she asked me if it was cost alone which I confirmed to which she replied she would take £10 off per month for 6 months and I could still cancel at a later date if I so wished, she also said that if I were to phone again in 6 months they would probably renew this deal. I did not ask for a deal as I was quite prepared to lose those channels.
I know its not the same saving as cancelling the Sports & Movies channels, but it helps.

I wouldn't bother with Sky if it weren't for the Movies and Sports channels.

The only other stuff we really watch are the terrestrial channels and maybe UK Gold/comedu/music.

Take away Sky Movies and Sports and I would just go back to freeview.
