in Credit cards
I am going on holiday to Kefelonia in a few weeks time and am trying to find out what charges (if any) nationwide make for me to use my credit and debit card abroad. I Do not quite understand if they do make a charge from looking at their website, it says 0% but then it says that Visa charge of 0.84% for each transaction.
Am I better off taking cash or should I use one of my cards when in Kefelonia?
thanks

You will not get 0% by withdrawing cash on a CC abroad, it is not recommended to do that as you will incurred high fees, high interest rate etc for taking cash with CC, however I believe that their debit card allows you to withdraw cash and nationwide will not charge you, but visa has 0.84%0

Go on their website and check. Nationwide always used to have 0%, but now have been forced (by the cost of VISA cards or something) to charge 0.84% on transactions in SOME countries.

click on right handside "foreign transaction".
However taking cash out of CC - not advisable. You can pay by it though.
I have both Debit&Credit card with them.0 -

That's not quite true though is it!
Nationwide have levied the 0.84% charge on withdrawls outside of Europe, and if you have their non-visa (cirrus cashcard) there is still no charge worldwide.

Thanks for the replies.
I would obviously only withdraw money on my debit card but would possibly use my credit card for purchases in shops restaurants etc. So am I better to use my cards instead of carrying a load of cash (which i hate!)?0 -
I would still have a bit of cash just in case, you never know what can happen0

Technically if I use Santander Zero credit card to withdraw money from an ATM abroad I will pay 27.9% from day withdrawn (to I presume the day I clear the outstanding balance) but I have been thinking, if I preload my Santander Zero credit card, that is to say, pay money into the account so it is in credit, technically how can I be charged interest? (Or will be charged mimimal interest) I have been planning this a while, I am in the USA in May 2010, so will try this… has anyone else tried it? I can see no small print closing this loophole! It's nice to be important but it's important to be nice!

It is a breach of your credit card T&C to leave the a/c in a credit balance on purpose, worst case scenario they can close it, but certainly they may withdraw promotional offers.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
