ok, i know someone who works in a sony vaio factory...
they make vaio replicas, which have some errors like forgetting to put the sony stamp in the right place!! etc..
they sell them for £200-£250 for the brand new state of the art laptops.
would you buy one? do you think its worth it?
thank you

If it's "legit" as such, then yes I would buy one - but you've got to wonder what "errors like" can mean - is this build quality less on some, can you be sure they're perfect inside. I imagine they'd come with no warranty?0

Hold on, can you clarify this..... "replica" or "slight factory second" from Sony?
I find this unusual because the Japanese are funny buggars, they don't like to sell off scrap product as it devalues their good product. They also hate admitting that they or their company can make mistakes.
Ive spent a lot of time with them and the culture and work ethic is unlike anything ive ever seen and they always keep a few of their own people in factory locations globally as they distrust the competence of everyone else.
Don't get me wrong though, fantastic people once you get to know them!
Firstly be sure that it's all legal and above board, if it's not (and the Jap companies are also ruthless) then your friend will be on the unemployment line faster than he/she can blink.
If it's all genuine, then you need to decide if you can cope without any warranty (I for example, can because I repair laptops).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I've also had some business contact with Sony in the UK, and I can't see that they would sanction anything like this, so anyone knocking off stuff like this would almost certainly have to be dealing in stolen goods.
IMO it's far more likely that these will be Chinese-made fakes, based on cheap components which are dressed up to look like Sony products. If so, the Quality control will be just adequate to fool the average buyer at a market stall, as the makers know that no faulty products will ever come back to them.0 -
^ exactly. Surely the reason the Sony "stamp" is in the wrong place, as it's a knock off product, like Tommy Hilfinger (see Alan Partridge series...)
Sony aren't going to be hand stamping their logo on lids and chassis, that's going to be automated on a production line by a robot (it's Sony not Murphy!), and if there was some error, the plastic would just be recycled or shredded.
PS the components at cost for a "state of the art laptop" are going to cost a lot more than a couple of hundred, there are very tight margins in the hardware industry. A £2000 state of the art laptop (Sony, Apple etc) doesn't cost £250 to produce.0 -
If the factory can "forget" to put the Sony stamp in the right place (whatever that means - I would have thought any ballsed up cases would have simply been thrown away or recycled), Lord knows what the inside of them looks like.0

Yeah, you guys have the right idea, like I said..... Sony being an Japanese company would never allow imperfect goods to leave the factory and reach consumers, they would scrap any imperfections and take the cost of that one the chin rather than dirty the Sony name by selling them on.
If they are really Sony, then they are VERY likely to be scrapped laptops from the scrap bins outside the back of the factory.
The recycling company or mostly likey someone who works for them may be making a quick buck out of the scrap product. Not a good idea when your company has a multi million £ contract to look after, because the Japanese believe in chopping the head off the snake to solve the problem.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
