Another bathroom quote + shower

Options
Moved home (living in Hampshire) and I now have had a quote for a bathroom installation in my 3bed semi (recommended by somebody who uses the plumber regularly so no concerns with quality). Bathroom is about 2.8m x 1.3m. Pic attached for a better understanding. I am supplying the suite, taps, vanity unit etc, but the plumber will supply materials for any required pipework etc.

6-vi.jpg

Mixer Shower to go above bath & Pump installation: £200
To include;

Fitting pump in airing cupboard and plumbing into airing cupboard for hot water and tank in loft for cold water.
Running the pipework through roof and down behind bathroom wall.
Fitting Mira shower to pipework etc, and then making good of the bathroom wall.
Note that there is no proper shower at present.

Bathroom fitting; £500
To include;
Take out and replace bath like for like
Put up shower screen
Remove toilet (currently a hidden cistern behind what I assume is tiled fake wall which only goes as high as a normal cistern
Replace with normal toilet. This will require a small fake wall to be built which is not as deep as current wall.
Remove sink unit..again this is currently a tiled 1m wide unit.
Replace with either a fitted vanity unit, or perhaps a standalone unit with sink.

Or both for £650.

Can anybody please advise as to whether this is acceptable, and whether other quotes are worthwhile?

Thanks
Be nice

Hi smashed. How much have you paid for your new bathroom suite. As that sounds a good quote to me for the work he is doing.

As you say he has been recomended so you know the work he does is good. Take into consideration how long he will take to do the work too. Is he a one man band that will float off and do other jobs and will take weeks to do yours or has he a few men permanatly at yours until job is done.

Thanks for the info / considerations.
He has a rating of 9.9 over nearly 100 reviews on checktrade.com. He has a couple of people working for him, though I believe that he will be doing the work himself, so all looks good on that front. I believe it will take about 3 days to do the work (cant remember exactly), but his reviews definitely suggest that he takes time to do his work well.
I bought the bathroom suite from B&Q as they have their 50% off at the moment (admittedly sales are never what they seem) and I also had a 20% off voucher, so I have mixed the sink, toilet, bath from different designs. Admittedly it is still a lot of money (£300 odd for the suite, plus £200 for a shower, £160 for a shower pump, £200 odd for the vanity unit, plus tiles, accessories, paint etc etc).
What seemed a budget move has become rather expensive.

Around £860 then plus £650 that's £1,510 That's good we have had 3 quotes for our bathroom 3 piece suite, shower, wall half ,shower closet, floor tiled.and our quotes for supply and fit ranged from £3700 to £6500.

As you have said he has good raps so you have 2 options ether go with him or get another 2 quotes just to see where your at.But to me that's a good quote.

    Good luck with it.

I would expect your quote to increase

If the plumber does his bit the bathroom will become unusable, The walls need tanked and tiled before fitting of shower screens etc, I would also put money on it that once the units are removed the walls will be in a poor state!

Shower pump requires seperate supplys from cold water storage tank and from hot water cylinder, Electrics need to be RCD protected, Based on current material prices theres £60-100 worth of materials and approx 1 days work to do correctly

Thanks, I had no idea about tanking etc.
It shouldnt be too bad though?
The shower area will need tanking, which I could do before he arrives. It wont need taking where the toilet is ripped out as the shower screen will protect it.
I think that we are going for a freestanding unit for the sink, so hopefully the tanking will not be that necessary there either? Can I not use aquaboard or something instead?

From what I read, tanking will only need to be done around the bath? (which can be done before he starts).

I have a relative to do the tiling anyway for free.

The £200 for the shower install was a fixed quote.

Although I didnt mention it before, I do have mutual links to the plumber, so he did say he would offer lower than normal prices. (However, I wasnt sure whether these prices were low, or just bog standard).

    Thanks

I think them quotes are good there. Get a few more people in and see what they say. You can make the pressure of the hot water better by raising the water tank in your loft.
    Kind Regards

Every metre from the top of the shower head to the bottom of the tank equates to 0.1 bar

You are never going to get a good shower unless you live in a tower block!

My shower is about 1m below the bottom of the loft tank which pressurises the eventual flow via the immersion heater, with inbuilt electric pump assistance (so it's a power shower or whatever) it works perfectly. The power supply does not need to be high amperage as it's only the motor but does need to be bathroom safety compliant. Just don't stand under it for half an hour and empty the tank, that's all.
