Good / Cheap hair straighteners!

Hi there

Can anyone recommend any good, CHEAP hair straighteners please?

(I'm a newbie to this forum, so apologies if the subject has been discussed previously - I'm normally to be found over on the Debtfree Wannabe forum).

I'm in a debt management plan, which means finances are very tight while I pay back my creditors, and my hair straighteners have stopped working. I'd love some GHDs but even on E-bay they seem to be around £90 upwards. Can anyone suggest a good make and model please??

(p.s. I normally straighten my curly hair on around 220 degrees )
Many thanks!

I love Remmington, they work better on my hair (curly/wavy dry and coloured) than ghds, my last pair were from Argos and lasted about 6 years I replaced them with the updated version a couple of weeks ago which were about £20 on offer in Superdrug, they work at 220 degrees and heat up in 15 secs - hth:)
Thank you for this site Martin

Agree on the Remmingtons, I had those before I got GHD's for a christmas present and they were excellent. This was a couple of years ago now so the newer ones are probably even better!

Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it... :o
  • I am not sure on the make (sorry, have left them at uni!) but I popped into Lloyd's pharmacy at the end of my road and got some ceramic straighteners which work a treat for like £12!

I have had 2 sets of GHDs which were marvellous but broke. I decided I couldn't fork out another £100+ so bought these Babyliss straightners. All the reviews said they were as good as GHD, I didn't believe them as I've had so many dodgy pairs of straightners in the past but for £25 (they were £25 a month ago, now up to £31 weird!) I decided I would risk it and they are 100% as good as GHD at a quarter of the price.

    Thanks for your advice everyone!

Glowgirl - could you let me have the model of the Remmingtons straighteners and I'll look out for them - Thanks! Online they are advertsing Remington Slim ceramic S2013 - could this be them? If not, I'll head up to my local Lloyds Pharmacy!

I got these also half price at Amazon. They are just as good as GHD's - they're amazing. And to think I had OH's credit card at the ready for the GHD's until I started reading the reviews of these ones.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

My experience of Babyliss and remington is that although they straighten hair well the plates do not last and start to loose their non-stickiness after a year and ruin my hair. I bought GHDs two years ago and they are still like new. So I guess the cheaper ones are a false economy.

I hear SHE hairstraighteners and KODO are as good for quality as GHD and much cheaper. They have been used on me by my hairdresser but I hav'nt bought a pair myself.

Found some GHD's on internet for about 40 odd quid the other week. I'll find where they where and post link.
