Free training for the over 50s

Hi
There seems to be a lot of posts about discounts on services or goods, but there are a lot of things free to the over 50s if you know where to look. I work for a training company and a lot of employers are looking to recruit people over 50 to benefit from their experience, mature attitude etc. We have funding for free IT training and qualifications for Greater Manchester. We are using this to help people in full and part-time jobs to keep up-to-date, and to help people who have been out of work for only a short time (less than 6 months) re-train to do something new. We have companies keen to take people on in a variety of roles after their training. The Government is investing more money in this across the country and a lot of this work, as ours is, is supported by money from the European Union.
If anyone is interested in finding out more about IT training in Greater Manchester contact me on alengden@cgresources.com.
There are other initiatives across the country and you can find out more by contacting your local Learning and Skills Council (http://www.lsc.gov.uk/selectlsc.asp?section=/Corporate)
Hope this is of interest to some of you!

That sounds interesting.
Pity about the cut off point of 6 months being out of work though, there are plenty of skilled people around who have been out of work more than that who will miss out.Torgwen.....................

Unfortunately the 6-month rule has been applied by the Learning and Skills Council for this particular programme. If someone is in transient employment, ie in and out of short-term temporary or part-time work, they can still be considered. If someone is unemployed/out of work for 6 months or more they may be eligible for help from Jobcentre Plus through New Deal 50+. There are a wide range of training programmes available across the country through New Deal. More information can be found at http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/New_Deal/New_Deal_50_plus/index.html

God help anyone trying to get help through the job centre system! When they pay a proper wage to the staff they might get to employ people with some modicum of intelligence and compassion. Until then....look out!0
