Natural remedies for stress/upset stomach?

Hi All

Well, I'm really stressed at the moment. We get married on 14th August and my stomach is constantly churning - very uncomfortable.
I was just wondering, before I go to my GP and ask for tranquilisers lol...does anyone know of a tried and tested way natural remedy for calming nerves, aiding restful sleep and calming my stomach down?

I'm a Virgo through and through and my stomach always cops for my worrying!!!

Thanks!

Have you tried Kalms tablets? They are natural and I find they help with stress when I take them short term. Although if i take the full dose I find they do also have an effect on my tum so maybe try a slightly lower dose to start with ;)

Bachs rescue remedy is also good for short term nerves, worries and crying issues.

Lavendar tea is good before bed to help sleep - I get it from allabouttea.co.uk - it's literally lavendar heads you brew up for a few mins (not too long or it goes bitter) then drink.

I'd second this. It's weird but it works.

The answer doesn't necessarily lie in tablet form.

Why not try some relaxation techniques?

Peppermint tea is good for the digestion. It is a very stressful time, hun so don't beat yourself up about being nervous. It'll fly by and then you'll be bored! lol

I found the same too... I am sure there is something to it but I have wonder whether there is a certain Placebo effect going on. Well whether it is placebo or it's actual stimulation of the senses/herbal remedy type effect... if it works, it doesn't bother me!
I used to use it for Driving lessons and tests.

Stress hits people in two places either the heart or the digestive system. Unlike the heart the digestive system is not fatal but is unpleasant. Good hypnotist should sort you out.

  • Thanks all...I might get some Kalms and rescue remedy and give it a go.
Would love to do the relaxation techniques...but I feel I'm too tense to actually attempt it LOL!

The peppermint tea is a good suggestion as well as rescue remedy, I find both helpful for digestive distress.

Beyond that though, I do really believe that long walks help enormously with stress. There's something about the rhythym of walking that helps me to think properly and clear my mind of stress and worries. And it doesn't take the level of concentration that relaxation exercises taken. I have made most of my big life decisions while walking :) It's also good exercise so you sleep better at night thus making you feel better when you wake up in the morning. Give it a try.

    And good luck!

I'd also say try and not get too hungry or too full: either will exacerbate any digestive stress IME. Little and often. Take time to sit down and eat, too. And avoid things that are really hard to digest. keeping you diet balanced and healthy will initself help I think.

Its dead easy to relax when tense but you need someone to lead you start with. Works along the lines of : as you read this what are the sensations like in your right foot?....... and are the sensations the same in your left foot or are they slightly different? ............ which foot is more relaxed? can you make the other foot match it.
Now while you have been reading this and thinking what a load of twaddle what have my feet to do with this you might become aware that you have temporarily fogotten about being tense. And so now you can become aware that if you can distract the tension you can allow yourself to relax. ETc ETc. im sure there is someone in your neck of the woods who can show you properly.
