Gothenburg

Hi

Have just booked some flights for a 3 night break in Gothenburg in August for me and hubby for my 30th and well excited. Still to book some accomodation and would love to hear from anyone that has any tips on:

what to see and do when there
places for eating
best places to stay etc. [Not looking to stay in a hostel (hubby won't do) but a B&B or hotel]

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

Weegie :-)

We stayed at the Royal Hotel a few years ago. We visited Gothenburg as part of a wedding group, and the hotel was chosen by the Grooms mother who lives there. Not sure how the rates compare to other hotels, but it was very reasonable at the time. I think she managed to negotiate a cheaper rate due to the number of rooms being booked. Staff at the hotel were brilliant. They love anyone from England.

Hotel is within walking distance from the airport bus drop off point, and shops, park etc.

We also found a really nice chinese restaurant just round the corner from the hotel. Don't remember the name though.

There are 5 Gothenburg hotels on https://www.venere.com which may be worth checking out. You can get a 4% discount on that site with the code: BK5HX8W - which you don't have to pay in advance.

    Hope that helps

Many years ago we did a Friday to Sunday 'day trip' on the ferry from Harwich. But when we got there it was closed!!!

Then the shops closed at lunchtime on a Saturday. Don't know if they still do.

Last year, we stayed in the Scandic Opalen hotel. At the time I was looking this was a good hotel which seemed to be the best value.

It's in a good location just a few minutes walk from "the Avenue".

Stayed in the Hotel G in Gothenberg last year. A very good hote with excellent breakfast. The hotel is next to the bus station and train station. It is very very good. The Haga district is worth a visit and is within reasonable walking distance of the hotel. The tram system is very good and easy to use. A visit to the southern archipelago is a must. Take Tram 11 to Saltholmen and then jump on a ferry to visit al the islands. You can get off on one of the small islands and then grab the same ferry back. Your tram ticket will cover the ferry ride as well. Your tram ticket is valid for 2 or three hours. If you go past that time you need to buy another ticket. This trip is easy to do and should not be missed. Look out for a free tourist brochure at the airport. Bus to Gothenberg stops just outside front door of airport.

re things to see - the east indiaman didn't offer english tours, it's a real battle to get out there and disapointing without the full story/tour, i wouldn't bother going.
get a ferry to anywhere, they use ferrys like we do busses and it's a great way to get an idea of the layout/culture etc for pennies.
don't drink - it's waaaaay expensive, do have coffee & cake for breakfast in a cafe with the locals, it's fab
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
