daft switching question, grateful for advice :)
Hi, we've just recieved yet another sky high electricity bill from british gas, £250ish owing even though we pay £60 a month dd and they also want to put our direct debit up to £105 a month!
Can I switch our supplier even if there is some money owing onthe british gas account? Of course I will pay british gas what we owe but not all in one big chunk, we simply cannot afford it, we have one wage earner and six small children, the longer I try to catch up with the bg balance and clear it before we switch the bigger it gets, it's like a hydra!

I think you will have to clear the debt atb the point of swtiching. However this may take many weeks. Start paying as much now and when you finaly switch there will not be so muchto pay. Or if you have a credit card and pay it off in full. pay with that at the end and have a few more weeks to play with.
It could take up to 8 weeks to to change. Remember you will not use so much now as its spring. Also make sure your dd is high enough with the new company as you will find yourself with the same problem again. The measure of love is love without measure0 -
When you look at the switching sites, make sure you use KWH as the comparison - not house size or number of radiators, because that only provides you with an "average household" usage, which I imagine with at least 7 of you living in your house makes you above average for consumption.
KWH is the best for giving you true figures regarding your consumption over the last 12 months. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0
