This is the Daily Thread for Mon 3rd August! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

Morning all:j:j
Im up early as im off to see my consultant this morning and my apipment is at 8:00am and i shall need to leave the house at about 7:00am to get there. For them that am local or know the area im off the Q.E. in Birmingham.
And thats about it for today iv got no other real plans. Might pop into a supermeket on the way back. My moms takeing me so she might wont to pick a few things up too.
The twins stay at my wifes moms and dads last night as my wife has to go to work this morning and with out of the house early too it was best for them to stay over night.
Im reall glad that i got the grass cut yesterday as its tipping it down here yet again this morning.
One nice day and i bet we will have a week of rain again now.
Well i hope that you all have agreat day everyone:j:j:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Morning.
Thankfully feeling better than Sunday. never got my half day either as somthing came up I had to deal with. Last day today and then 3 days off. Looks to be another wet and windy day and then a nice few days, so the boat might see the water again. A little fishing looks in order.
Need to go shopping as the food cupboards are bare. Colleague at work told me she spent £280 in Tesco on Monday WOW! Never spent that much not even at Christmas. She said it was to save the effort of trying to get in to the supermarket car park more than once in 3 weeks. Trouble is Cornwall is full of bored holiday makers who seem to want to shop all the time instead of sitting on the beach in the rain.
I see fuel and oil are edging up again. Might be time to fill the heating tank soon.... not sure how it will go?
Well, folks have a nice dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Halight - hope your appointment goes well and you don't have to spend ages sitting around.
N9eav - glad you're feeling better. Shame the half day didn't materialise.
Have had DGD and her parents staying for a few days - keeps me on my toes with no time for getting on here! She's now two and three quarters, which is a lovely age - vocabulary growing by the hour! Her favourite "friend" is our 17year-old cat, who is now looking visibly relieved that she's not being constantly pursued and picked up!
Washing on the line already and another load nearly ready - hope the rain holds off. Have bought some oilcloth for the kitchen table and have quite a big piece left over - do you think I could use it to make a shopping bag? What to use for the handles??? Need to catch up on the housework and sorting the piles of papers which have silently multiplied on my dining table while my back's been turned.
Hope you all have a good day.Resolution:

Morning all
Good luck at the hospital today Halight.
Up early this morning - well more like not slept really. My DD has not stopped coughing all night and we ran out of cough medicine so went to local 24hour Asda at 3.15 this morning. Now am waiting for collection point to open at 7 a.m. to go collect Tamiflu for her. Poor love is feeling really rough and its her birthday today (23). We usually start birthdays with strawberries, chocolate croissants and bucks fizz - will be different this morning I think, simple linctus, cough sweets and Paractamol instead I think:rolleyes:
I have the day off today as we were going to go out for lunch (we, both my DD's and myself, always take each others birthdays off and all go have lunch somewhere together) but think we will have to celebrate later in the week when she feels a better. She is supposed to be going away for the weekend too so we shall have to see how she is.
So unsure of plans today now, will see how it unfolds, may try to catch up with a little sleep at some point.
Have a good day everyone

Good morning,
I'm off to work again in a minute. Just been up the garden and taken the lid off the sandpit off ds's pumpkin plants, where it had blown. I have tied it down now, but I shouldn't have to - it's August after all.
Not much planned in the way of OS. I've been trying to sort out childcare. The person who was supposed to be minding ds in August has viral meningitis. It's been an all round nightmare. Thanks for all your good wishes for my children - I do only actually have the one. Sometimes it just feels like more!
Halight - I hope your appointment goes well
N9eav - I can understand your colleague doing all she can to avaoid the supermarkets at this time of year
Nic1lou2 - I hope your dd is better soon.
Take care all of you0 -
Morning peeps
Halight - good luck at the hospital today
Niclou - Hope your DD is feeling better soon, maybe celebrate her B`day when she is better. It will give you both something to look forward to.
Looks like it rained in the night but it seems ok at the moment, will have to wait and see how it goes. I`m w*rking in the room with no windows today so i always get a surprise when i get chance to pop out as the weather is always so very different to when i went in IYKWIM
I`m hoping that it`s fine later as i need to clean the outside of a couple of windows - not a job i`m particularly keen on but i always like it when it`s finished and i can see the difference, i have a small pile of ironing to take care of too. When i get a few days off in the not too distant future i shall tackle the upstairs cleaning as it`s only been swished and swiped for a few days.
Hope that everyones day has something good in it!
Catch you all later
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

Morning everyone.
Its so dark here I have the lights on. Feels like the middle of the night its so dull and grey. Might have to buy everyone miners helmets with lamps to cut back on the electricity of this keeps up!!
Been busy bee this morning. Cajun chicken on in SC and I am also cooking a whole chicken which I will strip once it's a bit cooler later.
DD seems a bit clingy and has a slight rash round her middle eek! I think its probably linked to the virus she's had, she's OK in all other respects apart from a slight loss of appetite (she has very hollow legs normally
) Will get a glass out and check it in a mo but might have to whip her up to the Drs to get it checked out. I'll see how it goes.
Having our hair cut this morning. Lady comes to the house to do it so it's much easier, kids can wander round whilst I have mine done etc.
No major plans today. Will just potter about.
Halight - hope your appointment with consultant goes well. Getting to the QE in rush hour traffic - I don't envy you!
N9eav - £280  on shopping. that's more than I spend for the 4 of us in one month.
Cranky - hope you can sort out some childcare soon.
Hugs to all that need them.
Off to check out the Flylady for this morning.
Have a good day, OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Morning all
Drizzly here today so I'm glad I got all the washing dry yesterday.
Hugs to all the poorlies.
The budgie I looking after is now here & chirping happily.
I'm moving hubby & I from one bedroom to another today, hubby wants to paint our room & it's easier if we aren't in it. I also need to have one final push on the spare/sewing room too and then I can get the ironing up there as well.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning All
Halight - hope it goes well for you today at the hosp
(((Hugs))) to all those feeling unwell and looking after sick ones.
N9eav - it must drive you insane with all the holiday makers, we have a few out here as their are quite a few caravan sites but nothing like you have to experience - have to admit I have never been down your neck of the woods - OH went everyyear when he was young as his nan owned a guesthouse.
Our new night work started last night, every driver will be at least 3-4 hours later finishing than normal but one driver we cant get hold of at all. Hope that it is a problem with the phone and not anything else, nothing we can do at the moment but its horrible waiting.
Wanted to make an early start today but cant concentrate at the moment, only have a little office work to do so will be ironing most of the day. Meant to be quite nice weather wise here today but looking like its gonna be hot tomorrow (hot in August - whatever next:D) so will aim to get out to the beach then.
Had lamb chops with hm grown new pots, beans and marrow yesterday - lovely. Have loads of pots leftover so will have those fried tonight with bacon and egg.
Have a good one.
