mp3 with ipod dock connection?

I'm depressed ...

My ipod went into the wash. Don't ask me how. I blame the toddler ...

Anyway, even though everybody knows you should never turn anything electrical on if wet, my OH went and did just that.

So now I need a new mp3 player. I don't really want to fork out for another ipod but I have 2 ipod docking systems. I know I can plug any mp3 into aux but I would rather get an mp3 player with the same connecting block as an ipod. Do any exist?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your loss, I would be severely annoyed if that had happened to my iPod.

The short answer is no, the iPod connection is a proprietary connection designed and owned by Apple who license it to other manufacturers to integrate into their docks etc. There may be some black market Chinese knock-off of the iPod which would connect but it would probably be more trouble that its worth. You could try looking at the refurbished part of the Apple store (here) or ebay.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling that might be the case. Oh well!

have you stripped the ipod down and dried it?
i recently had a bottle of water leak in my bag containing a 5th gen 60gb ipod
    it got a good soaking.
stripped it down and dried it out, after a few days the marks on the screen went and it worked
only fatality is the hold switch which i can replace for a few quid

Yeah, I have read of others who have had the same problem. I think the flaw is that my OH tried to turn it on as soon as it fell out of the wet washing. I think this would have killed any life that may have been left in it.
I can't open it either. It's really hard getting a knife into the side in order to force it open.
Yesterday I tried it and I got the apple sign and then an icon with an exclamation mark and a sad face.
I'm still waiting for it to dry out but I won't hold my breath!

i had a soaked 30gb ipod recently, my sisters.... i put it in an airtight lock and lock with rice, left it for 2 weeks, and it is now back in perfect working order..

and this was tried to be turned on too...
  • The rice suggestion might be worth a try. I have heard of a few devices that have been dried out that way. Can't hurt to try it!

    Thanks for the tip.

    It's a first generation 1GB ipod.

Never heard of the rice trick. I'll try it. Do I just put it in a tub of rice then?

What is the sad face icon anyway? Anyone know?

It means there's a hardware issue with your iPod, which isn't surprising if it has been through the wash.

ok, but I won't try resetting it yet. I'll give it a few more days to dry just in case.

Will get back with an update.
