Kids have put a couple of stickers on the laptop near where the keyboard is. I have removed the stickers but it has left some adhesive residue behind. How do i remove this?
The laptop surface is plastic. Unsure whether to use nail varnish or WD40.

Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

A blowtorch is very effective.
But I prefer Isopropyl alcohol, which you can get from the chemists, and is also used in most CD cleaning products.
White spirit also works well, but is a bit more messy as it takes much longer to evaporate. Keep it away from anything rubber, as white spirit causes it to perish.0 -
Top tip when removing stickers is to use a bit of sticker that has been pulled off to dab at the residue, this will often pull the rest off. if the sticker is long gone I'd start with meths or surgical spirit as fwor mentions (vodka just as good), next i'd try something oil based such as UPVc cleaner / parafin / cooking oil (then use meths to clean off the oily residue).
I would avoid nail varnish remover except as a last resort as it will probably take the finish off.
I know its obvious but be very careful using any solvent on your laptop (make sure it's switched off and don't turn it back on until the solvent is completely dry) as a small spark could ignite the solvent vapour (which is very scary when it happens, trust me!)
(I would also reccommend lakelands sticky stuff remover, expensive but handy if you have kids)0 -
Get yourself some specific label remover. I use Ambersil (just don't breathe in the fumes).
I'll tell you how good it is...... When I brought my last car it had sticky residue on the headlights where the previous owner had stuck on those filters for driving in France, I used my label remover and the residue came off easily in seconds leaving a lovely clean patch surrounded by scratches where the previous owner had obviously tried (and failed) to removed it with something abrasive.
Expensive, your looking at £5+ per can.... But it is seriously useful!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I use spray furniture polish for getting rid of sticky bits from stickers. Spray it on (close so it is over the marks), leave it for a bit then wipe off.0

Do Not Use Nail Polish Remover, This Dissolves Plastics

er, noooo, spray on to a cloth then apply to marks.0 -
If you are going to use furniture polish, don't get it anywhere near the screen, as totalsolutions suggests spray it on a cloth first. Furniture polish contains waxes which coat the lcd screen and are very difficult to get off.0

This will make a right mess! and you'll never be able to remove the WD40 residue!
Label remover leaves no residue at all, in fact nobody will ever know there was a sticker in the first place.
Just get clicking to Ebay and buy the proper stuff, you'll find it really useful to have around the house, especially if you have kids.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
