  • Evening Everyone, thank you for the replies.

Part 2. Tonight the Tech Guys are ringing her to give her remote assistance to solve her problem.

My take on it would be, that it was working fine, until the screen to boot up; or whatever the technical term for that maybe, problem wasn't with screen, but computer.
PC world fix the hardware, but don't accompany this service by installing the relevant drivers.

I would be kicking up a stink so loud, but she is a bit too nice. I agree that software conflict/viruses are not their problem, but surely the software that makes the new hardware work...............

Saying that I bought a recon laptop from PC world in Feb, so I am now wondering if I will live to regret it.
My finances are work in progress.
    Normal veiwing will resume shortly

I agree completely, but unfortunately when you start messing with software issues you open yourself up to all sorts of problems....

What if you have to spend hours fixing something else in order to install the drivers and get those working?
And what if three weeks later the customer is trying to blame you for MS word not working? It really is impossible to explain to some people that say for example... installing a simple driver did not cause their router to stop working, especially if some tech support centre has told them a load of rubbish.

Talking of which, tech support lines are the bane of my existence too, I get called out to fix someone's internet connection and they will NOT accept my judgement that their BT line is fautly... why? because the tech support guy in Bangladesh (reading from a guidance sheet) told them it was their PC!

Little guys like myself will handle software issues, the big players will try to steer well clear.

Only if it goes wrong and they try to fix it.
  • If new hardware was installed they are responsible for ensuring that the hardware functions correctly. This entails installing the correct drivers, I can't believe they didnt... I don't leave a job until the PC reboots cleanly with no error messages relating to the job I was asked to complete. I would be complaining to the engineers manager, the fault was clearly caused by their tech not doing his job completely...
