I made a very good paella in my hotel room in Seville last year, helps if you have a balcony.

Its not very OS but anything that you can make with a kettle can be made in the room. Pot Noodle, Super Noodles or Smash. I wouldnt attempt taking a slow cooker on holiday, not even if I was going self catering. They would see it as being a fire risk, even though we know it isnt.

Supermarkets have some cheap deals in their cafes if you go at the right times of the day.

Other than that your on holiday - treat yourself and get away from the housework and daily routine.

We have stayed in travelodges with plenty of food as you suggest, pot noodles/snacks and plenty of things like smoked sausage, crisps, nuts, bread, tinned snacks etc.

    We have also
    1) taken a mini-fridge so that our baby/toddler could start and end the day with a drink of milk (also useful for things like ham, cheese etc.
    2) taken plastic plates, cutlery, washing up liquid (take in an empty complimentary shampoo bottle!) and a dishcloth/tea towel.

All of these have been left openly displayed and no-one from travelodge has ever commented.

When I stay away in a travelodge. Make sandwiches to take. Take cereal with us. Sometimes take milk but not always. Always take a cool box.

I always find the nearest supermarket and buy items to make up sandwiches for the following day and milk.

Also pot noodle and snack type things. Also put the milk and OJ on the window sill always nice and cool.

Always budget in a meal out as it is nice.

  • I stay in Travelodges regularly and would rather remove my kneecaps with a chainsaw than use their coffee/tea/milk. Always take my own makings for brekkie, and often have a takeaway for dins. Don't think I'd stretch to using a sandwich maker / slow cooker - don't want the place to feel too much like a home from home

We stayed in a Travellodge last year with our children and took a normal small toaster with us. We used it in the morning for toast and warmed up a tin of beans in a tub of boiled water. :o

We stayed at the Big Blue hotel in Blackpool in Feb and took a mini fridge :D

We need it anyway for my husbands medication but it also kept the beer cold and some orange juice for my Vodka ka ka :D

We are staying in a London Travelodge in Sept so it looks like I need to pack my toaster/george foreman/slow cooker and smoothie mixer thingy? :rotfl:

Nope, not me. I'll be using the money I saved on the ceap rooms on nice meals out :D See, told ya I wasn't a good mse

bear in mind the kettle in your room could boil an egg, warm frankfurts, make smash potato even warm a small unopened can of beans plonked in...and i m sure there must be a 101 other things you could do with a kettle to acheive a warm balanced meal!
