Legally you can crucify her, morally you owe her. You knew the terms you rented under, I assume it was cheaper than a 'proper' place? You still owe her, you had an agreement. Was she a good landlord? Did she fix things that are needed?0

That's*not* the case -the method by which the T pays the weekly rent is irrelevant . It's the fact that the rent is paid *weekly* - in whatever form- which means that the LL *must by law* provide a Rent Book , containing specific information. ( except where a portion of the rent covers "board") LL& T Act 1985 S4the OP is paying by CASH in hand, in that case (only) there is no record of the payment hence the legal requirement for a LL to provide their tenenat (or lodger) with a rent book as a record of the payment given and received - ...0
