Bank Accounts

  • I opened an account with barclays the day i booked my BR court hearing.I informed them i would be going bankrupt. I had all my income changed immediately to go into this account and stopped all the direct debits/standing orders with my old account. This meant that i had a months income in the new account prior to my hearing. Both the bank and the OR are happy with this. They have assured me it wont be frozen and my OR is writing to them (day after hearing) to say she has no problem with me keeping it open.
  • are direct debits allowed out of the coop cashminder account? im going to have to open mine online as there is none around here.
my husband went BR in april so would i be able to open it up in joint names as they are BR friendly or not?
is the account just a cash card?

I have a basic account with barclays that lets me have a debit card and on-line access. i have set up direct debits and standing orders on line. The account was opened the same day i applied.
    Hope this helps you.

I have just opened a cashminder account with them, yes they do let you have direct debits and internet banking, the card you get is a visa debit card (not electron). Don't think you can open the cashminder online, it told me I had to go into a branch to do it. Took 3 working days to get cards and another 2 for the pins.

I understand the account is BR frinedly as it says so elsewhere on here, but I got mine in prep for sorting out my finances as they are the only ones I have no ties with.,

Hope that helps (my first post too)

    Thanks Jaygo!

The guy I spoke to at Co-op said it was taking 10-14 working days to process new accounts, but perhaps he got it wrong. Do you know if you can open one by telephone?

Don't worry lady this is normal, a mere formality. Just about everyone who's applied for this account has had to wait a few days. You can give them a ring on Wednesday if you've not heard anything. They are very bankruptcy friendly - I can't sing their praises enough. Good luck.

Yep...any with the LINK sign will be fine (apart from the ones that seem to charge £1.50 a time...but they warn beforehand)
