Hi, is there anyone on here who can give me some advice with natwest..
Heres the story, In febuary i was made redundant from my job, since then, till now, i have not found another job.
I am currently on jobseekers which doesent exactly help me when the bank is, as far as im concerned, unlawfully robbing me blind!
this isnt the first time, recently they charged me 70 quid over 2 charges in one day, i was at the time within my agreed borrowing limit (overdraft of £50) by about £20 and then was -£70 because of the charges, i went to the bank and explained my situation and I wanted to speak to the bank manager to make sure both charges at such a high price were lawful. He insisted they was, and wasnt helpful at all, also a little rude that i should have told them i had been made redundant, my finances were ok and i didnt need to inform them to stop my direct debits as i had income to cover them.
Well i went a little wrong and thats when they charged me for the previous month, I told them i would like to close the account and they said until they do that i owe them around £360.
so at this point i owe them £360 and this was including a new charge for going overdrawn on the charges which totalled £70, which i also find sickening. thats where i think its nothing more than legal theft.
I managed to sort out something.. which left me about £250 pound owing the bank, and i would be charged these in the future at some point.
today i looked at my bank to see how things stood, as im due to get paid £100 tomorrow morning. and i seen the following.
######## CHG '08JUL A/C 7806 -28 -49.14 ' JL '
######## CHG 'PAID REFERRAL FEE , 08JUL A/C 7806 -30 -79.14 ' JL '
######## CHG 'UNPAID ITEM FEE , 08JUL A/C 7806 -76 -155.14 ' JL '
######## CHG 'GTEE CARD PYMT FEE, 08JUL A/C 7806 -105 -260.14 ' JL '
I have gone from being about +£3 remaining OD to -£299 overnight.
also bare in mind this will also incur MORE charges ontop of this 299, next month this debt could be worth twice as much!!
Im crap at this sort of stuff. i really need some help, i am going to citizens advice tomorrow for some help but if anyone has been in a similar situation and can offer any advice, it would be greatly appriciated.
to be honest its making me ill, where i live there is little oppertunity for a high paid job and currenty there is no oppertunity to find work, i have tried my hardest but its just not a good time here. i feel totally stuck as my debts are spiraling out of control only due to there vulgar charges, and also the fact any real income seems to well out of my reach for as long as i am out of work, and the outlook is very bleak.
any thoughts.. im actually getting to the point where i want to get personal with the bank manager.. and im starting to lose my rationality.:mad:
thankyou

NatWest terms and conditions changed in the way that charges went out of the account so that they no longer go out immediately but 21 days after your statement date which is why the balance on the day the charges went out is not relevant to when the incident occurred.. It may contain that on your statement or on pre advice statements which are sent to you or will be online if you do not get paper statements.
Well i went a little wrong and thats when they charged me for the previous month, I told them i would like to close the account and they said until they do that i owe them around £360.
That will be from accumulated charges
so at this point i owe them £360 and this was including a new charge for going overdrawn on the charges which totalled £70, which i also find sickening. thats where i think its nothing more than legal theift.

Jay, have you got priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities)?
DO you have credit card charges?0 -
I'm not the best at giving advice, however...I would begin by saying that you need to give the bank notice that you have been made redundant. They will then be much more understanding...they were helpful when I had no income a while back.
Good luck with it all

hello and thank you natweststaff member, I do not have any outgoings as such i have a few dd's but dont have a mortguage or have to pay council tax.
i do however have one debt, which was capital one which got handed over to a debt collector years ago and i pay that off monthly.0 -
one thing ive noticed is the reference for all the charges is for the 8th of july..
the only transaction on the 8th of july was..
8 Jul 2009 - ATM NATWEST 08JUL - 20.00 - Balance - £44.45
as stated i have a £50 overdraft. which looking at the balence figure of £44.45, i should have £5.55 remaining...
before anything went out of my agreed borrowing limit, i placed £55 into the account on the 15th of july, with no transactions in between the withdrawel i made at the ATM, which took the balence to +£10.55, or £60.55 if you include the £50 pound overdraft which i also had.
so why are the charges relating to the 8th of july as the statement doesent seem to show exactly where or why i have incured them charges on that date.
I assume the date specified in the charge is the date of the 'offence'? as thats what they told me at my branch?0 -

Natweststaffmember is right the 8th July is the date your statement is produced and it is therefore the date of the preadvice of the charges and this is why its on your statement.0
