'For Sale' boards - legal positioning

Our board is currently on a lamp post that is on our property. We wish to have another one put on it as the board can only be seen from the road in one direction (our house is set back in a staggered terrace and our neighbour blocks the view from the other direction).
The 'Boardman' from the EA was jittery about putting the first board on the lamp post, and is reluctant to put another one on through fear of putting it on council's property.
The thing is, the lamp post is on our property, so surely we can stick what we like to it?
Any ideas?
Thanks

whilst the lamppost may be on your property, the lamppost itsself still belongs to the council. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

Can't they just put a proper board up, on a post, next to the lampost?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

Do you get rent on the lamp post, as it is on your land?
I remember how some owners got rent from BT because telegraph poles were on their land.0 -
we have a bt pole on our land and get a yearly rent, just dug the way-leave out and we are not allowed to stick, nail, screw etc anything to it. hope this helps.0

Estate agency boards beleive it or not are actually subject to planning consent by the local council.
In Bath for example the planning regulations forbid the placement of any exterior for sale boards at all, you must have them displayed in your window.
The board cannot be on land not owned by you or the freeholder of the property where you live, nor can it be attached to a structure not owned by you or the freeholder to whom you pay ground rent without prior permission.
In short, it aint allowed, and is just the board contractor being lazy. Call the agent as they are most likely not even aware of where the board has been placed.

Thanks, one and all.
I do hope the political parties have clarified their legal situation as to all their signs on all the lampposts with the forthcoming local elections!0 -
What's the going rate for rental for a piece of council equipment on my land? Can I backdate my claim to when I moved in? Who's office do I pester?0

Estate Agents boards are covered by the Town & Country Planning Act. They must not exceed 0.5m2 in size & only one board is allowed per property, anything more than this requires planning permission. You can have two agents boards on one post, but they must be back to back & not exceeding 0.5m2 in size. Boards have to placed within the boundary of the property, I have had councils ring me up when the board man has placed the board on a back fence, with the post on the outside of the fence, as they have deemed it to be outside the boundary of the property. Boards should not be fixed to lamp posts or road signs as these are council property.0
