Hello all!!.reclaiming,CFS and credit rating.

Hi everyone!

First of all thanks so much for the wealth of knowledge and info that you're all sharing here-fantastic!
Long time reader here-but this is my first post-!!

I came across this site whilst looking for info on reclaiming bank charges, and since then have been an avid reader. I've used loads of the advice on here to start my own claim and usually all the info I need is here but I have a question I haven't been able to find the answer for..(which is not to say its not here..but I've searched quite a bit with no luck).

I've racked up charges of about £3000 in the last 6 years from the Halifax, and have recently started the ball rolling to reclaim them.In the last 12 months alone I've had about £1300 worth of charges,I've also recently been made redundant from one of my (teaching) jobs which was a large source of my income.

So..I got my charges sent to me..I wrote a letter saying I'm experiencing financial difficulties and I would like my claim assessed immediately..and I've just been sent-(what I understand is the usual next step)-a 'Common Financial Statement' to fill in.

My concern is-will the information I give on this affect my general credit rating?
I understand that the Halifax group (Bank of Scotland,Lloyds..etc) will use it for making their own decisions regarding my credit etc,but will it affect my general credit score or will it be accessible to third parties who may want to assess my credit??

I could REALLY do with getting that money, but I'm very concerned that I could be shooting myself in the foot in the long run if that is the case...

I've just about managed to keep up my mortgage payments, but I'm going to have to remortgage very soon and I'm worried that this may count against me.

Any advise would be much appreciated,

Many thanks,

Basil

I think the bank charges have already had an effect on your credit rating so I wouldn't worry.

It will not be made available to third parties since the information is used to assess financial hardship

I think you might be lucky if they repay you because you may not have priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities) however, do you have credit card charges?

Many thanks for the help natweststaffmember, I'll get the form sent off in that case.

I do have some credit card charges but nothing huge....so don't you think the fact that I've incurred all those charges in the last 12 months is enough to justify my claim?

Also I'm still being paid by the employer who made me redundant up until the end of Aug-at which time my finances will likely slip more into the red..how do you feel I should represent that in the Common Financial statement?

    Thanks again,

    Basil

I don't think today you may not appear to be in hardship but that doesn't mean I am always 100% right when someone claims but there is no obvious signs ie priority debt arrears. Where there are no obvious signs I usually look at other charges which may be easier to reclaim. You need to complete household income on a CFS form. You have to give your present situation. Remember you have the right to ask the bank again almost every month to look at the situation again ;).
