I've had a MOT where one of the seat belts wouldn't pull out so they quoted me for a new one. I said I'd take the vehicle away for any repairs and when I got home WD40 did the trick. I took the vehicle back for a re-test and they said they'd ordered the seat belt in but as I got the original working they just gave me the part without fitting it claiming they couldn't send parts back to their supplier so I'd have to pay for it before I could take the vehicle. As the part is still in all its packaging, brand new, unused, do I have any stance in making them take it back?

if you asked them to order it in then they have complied with your requests.
they should be able to send it back to thier supplier but it may be subject to a handling charge and dependant on price might not be worth the hassle, it might be better you just listing it on ebay if it didnt cost you too much.

I didn't ask them to, they just assumed because they quoted me I'd want it. It was £80 so I wouldn't mind paying a handling charge.

if you didnt ask and they just assumed then why did you not argue the point that you never asked for it in the first place? they should take it back, but i imagine you will have a fight on your hands.
if you genuinely didnt ask then or even hint at the fact they should order it then i would be reluctant to even pay a handling fee.

The sales rep had wrote the quote down on the job form which I'd already signed, so it looked as if I'd approved it as my signature was already there.

so the quote you signed was actually you authorising the work to be carried out then?
best you can hope for is paying a handling fee then.

When we are ordering in parts for customers that we don't know - and they are special order parts (not on shelf etc), we request a deposit first - so that if they don't come back, we don't get lumbered with them.... :o

I’m not sure I’d want a seat belt that had broken and had been repaired with WD40, I’d just fit the new one
