Direct Debit not having been set up

To cut a long story short, I got my Mum to pop into the golf club to change my dd details to A&L as I live too far away to do myself.

The woman at reception said she would take care of it the next day as the person who would deal with this was off.

Nothing has come out of my account as yet and I am convinced that the woman didn't "take care of it."

I have cancelled the dd with my former bank. Will I get charged for this, or what would the situation be ?

Have written a letter for my Mother to take to the club tomorrow.

Thanks, guys.

The woman at the gold club should send a DD mandate for you to complete and sign.

The DD, if presented to your old bank, will be refused. There will be no charges. If the DDI is set up again under AUDDIS it may be paid next time, and charges incurred if there is insufficient credit available. The originator shouldn't set it up again (because they'll have been told via the ADDACS report that you've cancelled it), but from reading posts on here the AUDDIS rules are often broken...especially if a contract still exists (although probably not relevant in your circumstances).

With hindsight, couldn't you have telephoned/written to the Golf Club? That's what I'd have done. I suspect if the woman who usually deals with this was in when your mother called in your/her request would have been flatly denied...I'd like to think so anyway.
