Check your NPower Bill

I received my email telling me my power bill was available on the website yesterday. It was considerably higher than I was expecting and resulted in my Direct Debit being increased by £50 per month! So I checked it carefully and was very glad I did. The meter readings were correct but on the Electricity account they had charged me for exactly double the KwH which I had used. This amounted to an overcharge of £171! Since I assume the bills are worked out by the computer that suggests a glitch in their system!
I have spoken to Customer Services who have referred it for the Bill to be re-done manually. So I suggest that if you are with NPower and have received a bill recently that you check it very carefully.

I totally agree with you. In fact I feel there must be more than just a single glitch.
I still take my gas from npower, and I don’t just check my bills from that company, I give every one a detailed audit. Every figure is checked, especially the number of high tier units that are apportioned on the bill for any given period (I am on a two tier tariff). I keep finding significant errors that should not occur in a computerised billing system.
I have just written to npower asking why, on my latest bill, is there an error in a simple subtraction of one figure from another. This sort of thing should not be happening.
If npower doesn’t have the decency to give you any explanation as to how the error you mention happened, when they send you the replacement bill (and I don’t expect they will) you may care to write and ask for one.0
