bank charges what can I claim back????

After spending a day robbing peter to pay paul etc just opened a letter from Lloyds TSB to say they are charging me yet again for being overdrawn. As I was feeling fed up anyway I have just logged onto my online account and run a list of charges off . I cant believe it but i have gone back to July 2002 to present and there must be thousands of pounds in charges:mad:

Could someone please explain the following to me or point me in the right direction

1. How far back can I claim (is July 02) too far back
2. What charges can I claim for? I seem to have charges for the following
overdraft interest
unpaid cheques
unpaid DD
unpaid SO
unplanned overdraft
overdraft excess
account charge

which of these can/cannot claim back?

Thanks

    1. How far back can I claim (is July 02) too far back As per the FSA waiver, you can claim back to 27th July 2001
    2. What charges can I claim for? I seem to have charges for the following
overdraft interest Only OD interest charged on the fees, not general OD interest. However it's difficult to separate these accurately and so most people don't bother
    unpaid cheques Yes
    unpaid DD Yes
    unpaid SO Yes
    unplanned overdraft Yes
    overdraft excess Yes
account charge No.if this is for a 'benefits package' a/c ie where there are breakdown cover, insurance etc
  • thanks for your quick reply, I have just been on the MSE calculator and I am amazed to find that the charges total £2500 excluding any interest, with interest it comes to more than £3000:eek:

I have read that i should start my claim now even though the claims are all being held back now and I am not in hardship (well I am but not according to claiming)

I cant believe actually how much it has come to. Should I send a template letter to the bank now and do I claim with interest or without:confused:

If you have taken the time to work out the interest then WITH interest which the bank should acknowledge

Interest bit is not my strong point but the MSE guide calculates it all. So that's why I said that if you have gone to the trouble of already working it out then better to claim that amount. I generally don't bite new people to the site cos I am much better biting chunks out of banks :D

  • Hopefully you will be able to guide me through this then, I have downloaded the template letter and have customised it all, I have printed out a copy of the charges to attach. Which address should I send the letter to, do i send it to my local branch or does it go to head office and cc local branch????
