Can they refuse hardship if i own a car?

I am new to this, today in fact and was wondering if someone could help. I didn't want to hijack anyone elses thread :)
i am applying for hardship as i have lost my job and am only now able to work 16 hours a week.
they have sent a hardship claim form and although i have already put my car up for sale its not going anywhere after 3 weeks.
if the banks know you have a car, can they refuse to consider you?
all help is greatly appreciated. thanks
