My OH wants a dressing table in white but the only one we can find within our budget is this
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70162862
I know it isn't white but what do people thing about just giving it a coat of matt white. Will it look ok?
If not anyone know anywhere else we can get one for about the same price.
Cheers

Have you had a look on Ebay, only I saw lot's of those style of dressing tables/console tables in white for sale when I was looking for bedroom furniture a while back.? Such as these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/French-Shabby-Chic-White-Dressing-Table-Mirror-Stool_W0QQitemZ140336395659QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Bedroom_Furniture?hash=item20acb3758b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

The problem with painting brown furniture white is that if it's not wood you need to prime it with a special primer first & if wood unless you give it a good sanding down, it won't have a good 'key' for the paint. You'd need to use a paint suitable for wood, such as Eggshell to ensure it's hardwearing.
I think I'd be more inclined to shop around a bit more to see if you can find something near enough what you want rather than fork out for something that you need to work on to make what you want. Only really worth doing that if you get a bargain. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

A coat of matt white will get grubby and be hard to clean. It may also be hard to get it to take on the original finish.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
